Vintage Rogers

Loading...

Hello,

I have a vintage Rogers set that I'd like to identify. I believe it's from the late 60's or possibly early 70's. I bought these 2nd hand in the late 70's, they have gray speckled paint on the inside of the shells.

13 & 14" mounted toms

16" floor tom

24" kick drum

any help would be appreciated.

Need some pictures, or internal badge information, wrap color & condition, chrome condition, extra holes, missing hardware among other info.

Kind of like asking for value of a Ford I found in a garage down the road..............

I replaced the original mounting hardware with Pearl in the early 80's. I've also added a Big R 18" floor tom in 81'.

Looks to be a Fullerton 1973 Londoner 5 according to the label posted.

With the Pearl hardware, a nice players set. With those sizes, B O O M big time!

Yes, probably started as a Londoner 5, but with larger bass and toms. The standard configuration would have been 14x22, 8x12, 9x13 and 16x16. As the badge shows, they began using them in 9/72. The "A" and low serial number suggests it would still be a 1972. The color is "New England White". Too bad about replacing the Swivomatic mounts with generic Pearl mounts.

9/72 series was in production 1972 through 1975, and was the last of the Swivo era Rogers. The Rob Cook books dates as follows:

1972 – Serial # underlined with no prefix

1973 - letter "A" followed by serial #

1974 - letter "B" followed by serial #

1975 – Serial #, no underline or prefix

I'm curious as to why you replaced the Swivomatic mounting system with the Pearl system. Had the Swivomatic mounts begun to fail to hold the drums?

Thanks for calling my attention to this. I have this book, but obviously didn't pay attention to the information! I wasn't aware that the original 9/72 series began with no prefix.

That would be my guess. Maybe the cast collet noses were over-tightened and cracked. Rather than track down and pay for machined collets, probably seemed more cost effective to replace all the mounts. Again, just a guess. Let's see if the OP lets us know.

I'll bet you're right, Mark. Same reason we see Fullerton swivo-era drums refitted with Memriloc hardware.
