Would a 1961 Swing Master Outfit (see pic) have a cymbal arm mount next to (above) the badge on the bass drum?
(similar to the early Ludwig club date bass drum ones)
NOT the usual L arm holder.
I'm aware the tom IS mounted off the hoop.
The particular set I am looking at has this and I am thinking it was added.
Not original.
Which kills it for me.

Mark, that's a tough one! Can you supply any pictures? Don't pass on the kit just because a former owner made some changes to suit his/her style. I totally get where you're coming from. Pictures would clear things up.

If you're talking about a cymbal holder rod that slides up and down through a small fitting in the middle of the top of the bass drum, what's not original about that? This was customary on virtually all simple drum sets back then in lieu of a cymbal holder that clamped on the bass drum hoop. But, pictures would really help to confirm this.
The Swingmaster was cataloged with a telescoping cymbal holder through the 1960 catalog, it changed to the tom leg style mount in the 1963 catalog, which is what you posted. It would be the correct mount for 1961.

Makes complete sense and would seem original to me. Pics would still clear up any confusion.

That's what I was hoping to see. These drums are dated 61 inside. Thank you all.
Obviously if good coin will be spent it better be all original.
And a great wrap for you as usual. A more upper level kit than the Swing Master with that bass drum (separate tension lugs). We'll be waiting for all the details. Good luck!

IMHO, even if that mount isn't original, it wouldn't deter me from purchasing the kit. It's Fiesta Pearl...and appears to be in VG condition! A rare wrap that you seldom come across. My vote is to get them!

Wrap looks decent but that coin & not seeing in person deter me.
And you know what the odds are for finding a FT.
Yes, it's a cataloged kit but I like my 4 piece kits.
