Hi all. I'm considering swapping out the lugs on my Ludwig Standard metal snare drum. I like the lugs that are on it, but it might look better with different lugs. Can anyone suggest any Ludwig lugs that would fit the hole spacing for these Ludwig Standards? I was considering Bowtie lugs like on the Jazz Fest / Pioneer. Keeping in mind that it's not a beaded shell, so Supraphonic Imperial lugs and Acrolite Bowtie lugs might not look great.
Any information would be welcome.

I actually like the lugs on the snares. Nice and simple. If I was going to change any out, I would probably go with bowties or maybe tube lugs.

You're right. I'm looking at the snare now and the lugs are cool! They're a good snare drum. I've never owned one until just recently when I picked this thing up. It sounds nice! Definitely up there with the Acrolite and Supraphonic. I'm playing it with the original heads and wires. I think I'll just leave it the way it is. It's pretty much all original, so it might be better to leave it that way. :-)
They do sound very nice. It's the same shell as the Acrolite and Supraphonic but without the bead. The hardware is lighter, so it probably allows the drum to resonate better. And yes, when I find one, I usually try to find some original heads and wires for them. So you're ahead of the game. Post a pic if you can.

The new flat imperials would work. That might look cool. Seen a few with tube lugs, also a unique look...otherwise the Bowties are really the only other easy swap but then it will look like one of those late 70's Rockers with the chrome wrap (is your drum the chrome or aluminum finish?). But I agree that they look cool as they originally came. The smooth lug was less expensive to make because the smooth design could be entirely machine polished for plating. Also has that cool late 60's design vibe going....
but flat imperials would certainly make it look different...like a Supra's long lost cousin

Thanks fellas. I actually cleaned the heads. Hey, it worked! Why not? The batter head was scuffed up with stick marks and someone had doodled on it with a pen. (Why do people always do that?) It cleaned up nicely. I used some rubbing alcohol. It works, but just try to avoid the logo because the alcohol will wash that ink logo right off. You can clean around the logo with a wet cloth / tissue paper. It's worth doing. I don't mind stick marks when they're my stick marks. I like to clean every trace of previous owner off the drum and make it my own. That's just how I roll with old vintage drums.
Why mess with a good thing? Standard stuff is the standard for cool.
Yes that is a nice drum, I have a Rocker snare that I had painted Candy Apple and has those lugs and it looks great. If it's not broke don't fix it.

I really like the "standard" lugs on the "standard" snare drum! Why mess with a good thing?!! Yes, you could install the new flat Imperial lugs, but the cost, IMHO, wouldn't justify the switch. Another option would be tube lugs. Many styles available that come in a 2-3/16" spacing. The real issue is that there are most likely outlines/scratches from the Standard lugs.
