Never said Slingerland drums aren’t worth it, I think they’re great drums, but a fact is a fact
Slingerland Expertise Needed: Fair offer?
I agree with everyone. Generally, Slingerlands don't bring the same money as other vintage brands. This set is the exception to the rule given the astonishing condition. It should bring more than average but will also probably take more time and effort to sell. I feel a fair "friend to friend" price is $1000.00 plus or minus. Buyer receives a bit of a discount and seller doesn't have to deal with the headaches of selling (CL scammers, low-ballers, shipping). Seller knows kit is in good hands.
Guys,
Thanks so much for all your opinions and remarks! I needed a little guidance with this one, and you all have provided some great info. As we all know, pricing and evaluating a kit is so subjective, especially when the kit is almost "one-of-a-kind" like this one. Pristine, all-original kits which look like they've never been used are hard to come by. I'll share your opinions with my buddy, and we'll see if we're both motivated to make the deal.
Tommy: Yes, that's right, you know Fred (and this Slingerland set) from high school, right? He recently bought a set of five timpani and two concert snares (along with other percussion items) from an Enfield school just to use in the GFG concert band, so his basement is getting ridiculously crowded. If I buy this kit from him, he'd better throw in his box of white cotton gloves!
(Hey, I still have to swing by your place sometime after work to drop off that Fibes Cym-Set. Let me know when's a good time)

Hi Mike,
Sounds like the COW kit is a beauty! I'd be curious to know how many screw marks are on the Setomatic post. That's one of the negatives that Slingerland didn't seem to address. My guess is that the original owner probably didn't change the height often and there aren't too many "pock marks" on the down post.

Mike!
Yes indeed ... Fred it was! I remember him playing these back in 1971 or so actually ... so he HAS had them since day one! I was playing drums for our HS Jazz Ensemble and we did a set for some Town of Enfield to do with a dinner/dance to follow, and the band that had the dinner/dance gig was "Custer's Last Band" I believe their name was, and it was FM on drums! I watched him unpack those incredibly clean and bright Slingerland's, and oh yes, he was wearing white cotton gloves. I do NOT make a mockery out of that either as just a scant few years later I had my 1st set of Fibes .. ( 1973 ) .. and I did the same! Truth is, I still do today when setting up my Fibes COF drums. Nothing worse than the marks left on the chrome from one's sweat/oils. Fred knew then! :) I will get in touch on having you over Mike! BEST!!!
