Picked up a Slingerland 80N kit this weekend

Loading...

I have lusted for a Slingerland 80N Buddy Rich model kit for a VERY long time. I had the catalogue page cut out and affixed to the wall of my room back in the 70’s, so you can imagine how long this fascination has been going for these kits.

I went to the Chicago Vintage Drum Show this weekend, was chatting with some friends Friday night about vintage drums. One of my companions asked me what Vintage kit I would put on my bucket list these days. My answer of course was the Slingerland 80N kit. I never thought I would ever acquire one of these sets as they come up for sale infrequently and when they do, they are priced pretty high. The first booth I went to when I arrived at the show had a Mahogany finish Slingerland 80N for sale and in great shape. I played the kit and was blown away by the sound of this kit. I was able to strike a very good cash deal for the pictured kit. I am just thrilled to own this kit.

3-ply or 5ply? Did you get the hardware with it?

I'd love to get one someday also.

5 ply , I did not take the stands, hihat or snare stand. I did get the cymbal arms that go on the bass drum, set o matic tom mount and floor tom legs and bass legs. The stands with the kit were in mediocre condition and he wanted too much for them IMHO. I will use my DW Ultralight stands for now with this kit.

Great to see the pic of you behind them Rick! Those are something special. Your seller is a good guy as well. A fella from Canada goes to Chicago and buys his dream kit from a gent from South Carolina (not me). Congrats! That's what it's all about. Was awesome getting to meet you finally as well Rick!
