Help - Ludwig Gold Sparkle / Pearl - 60's?

Loading...

Hello, looking for a bit help on these pieces.

Ludwig - Gold Sparkle - 12x8 - inside was painted black I believe, the screws are white.

Pearl Oval badge - 12x8 and 14x14

Just looking for some general info on these. Can't seem to find much info on the Pearl's other than the possible years produced. Maybe values would be super cool too.

Thank you for any info!

Comparing to others online, I see it. 2 smooth grooves instead of 3 deeper lines. Is that for every year produced? Almost looks like the pearl hardware. If those are indeed pearls...

So now I'm wondering if anyone can id these as well.

I picked em up off Craigslist, he had a stack of 12 drums and I talked him down to $250 for the lot, being a sound designer I was just looking for a stack of drums to experiment with, but I was curious when I saw the vintage badges, it would be great to know what I have.

I love the snare, I think it sound great. Thanks again,

Leave them original, those are all nice MIJ drums the pearl snare is very nice 60's model. the floor tom is a desireable finish too,

Thank you, great to hear. I think they sound good, I'm well excited for a small jungle kit, just ordered some parts for the root beer tom conversion.

Cheers.

The overall look of Ludwig lugs has not changed for probably 70 years. The lugs on that drum are not Ludwig.

No they are not. The fastest way to confirm that this is a MIJ drum is by opening it up (removing a head) and checking to see which way the wood grain is running. A Japanese drum from that period will be made of lauan and the wood grain will run vertically (head to head), whereas if it's a Ludwig with added MIJ Slingerland copy lugs there will be extra holes (or enlarged holes) and the wood grain will be running horizontally.

PS: I love the Pearl President snare! Is the shell made of Phenolic or wood? Phenolic will be a brownish red colour.

1964 Ludwig Champagne Super Classic
1970 Ludwig Blue Oyster Super Classic
1977 Rogers Big R Londoner 5 ebony
1972/1978 Rogers Powertone/Big R mix ebony
60's Ludwig Supersensitive
Pearl B4514 COB snare ( the SC snare)
Pearl Firecracker
PJL WMP maple snare

Great info,Thanks! I opened it up(someone painted it black..) and the grain runs horizontally, and there are indeed extra holes. So its a Ludwig hybrid thing? Or was this factory produced?

The snare is wood, seems like its in great shape. 1968?

I dug this metal snare out of my Parents attic, it was my brother's from the mid 80's, it looks like Ludwig hardware and I remember there being a badge on it at some point(it fell off from being in a hot attic for 30yrs) I think its an old student snare, can any one confirm the ID?
