Roy Burns passes away?

Loading...

I was over at the DFO site and there is a thread that Roy Burns has passed away. Here's the link... http://www.drumforum.org/index.php?/topic/152160-roy-burns/?p=1674329

I posted my response, along with this picture of me and Roy from 1983. I was taking some lessons from Roy at Hanich Music in West Covina, CA. An MD photographer took our picture and Roy called me later to let me know what issue the article and picture would be in. Roy, you will be missed.

I,ve always viewed him as a very classy man in every way. Very polite and humble, and a monster drummer as well!!

How old was Roy?

Wow Mark. Very sad news, but what a great thing that you got to meet him and learn from him. He was a great musician.

What kind of drums are you sitting behind in that photo?

Here's Roy in early days:

Hi Dan,

That kit was a late 60's or early 70's Yamaha. As you might have noticed, the toms were retrofit with Rogers Memriloc mounts. I'm sure Roy's connection with Rogers had something to do with it!

I went to one of his clinics & afterwards the store owner took Roy, me & my wife to dinner.

He was a true gentleman, RIP Roy.
