Hello!

I scored a couple of great vintage snares yesterday, one of them is this cool vintage Pearl.

- All original, except top and bottom heads.

- Strainer and tension/butt plate in great working order.

- Beautiful champagne sparkle, only slightly faded.

I love that it's a 10 lug vintage MIJ snare, rare for me, most of mine are 6 luggers. I'm going to put a new Remo Ambassador on this weekend, give it a good cleaning. Sounds great!

If anyone has more information about this particular model; year, etc. Please chime in.

The throw looks to be Ludwig rather than Pearl. Most throws I've seen from that era are a flat piece of twisted metal. Instead of a "baseball bat" style. But I am by NO means an expert. Anyways, the badge would be from the sixties very early 70's. Catalogs say they are made of hard plywood. Pearl employees have maintained it's made of Luan (Japanese mahogany). Great drum. Enjoy!




Looking for a late 80's to early 90's, preferably Arctic White Pearl MLX 14x14 floor tom.

I know right!? There's no extra holes, it 100% appears original. Pearl, like all MIJ stuff back then did copy EVERYTHING...so, this doesn't surprise me, but rare for sure.

All Mahogany is hardwood. Even the fast growing riverbed from Brazil.

Pearl did not stop making the re-rings until 67 or 68. So, I would depend more heavily on the dating of the badge, while filtering through this shell construction dating.

Indeed very rare to find a 10 lug wood MIJ. Also rare for the strainer. That is a great score. If the edges do not check out to be true, I would not shy away from re-cutting them. I had a wood Pearl made snare from the early 70s (same shell). I had it re-cut and it did wonders for improving the sound.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Yeah, later 60's would make sense, regarding the non re-rings. I'm very happy with this score, for sure. I do plan on having the edges re-cut. I have a great pro not far from me, I actually get him to do most of my MIJ drums...and yes, does wonders.

One thing I'm wondering, where I can get proper replacement snare wires...
