Superficial Drum Pet Peeves

Loading...

I always find this kind of thread amusing - what are your superficial pet peeves in terms of drum gear? Meaning purely aesthetic annoyances, like tom angles.

Personally, while I have no problem with drums that have had the reso head and hoop removed, I cannot stand seeing that on drums with long lugs. They're like big arrows drawing attention to the exposed bearing edge...

Photos of nice kits / bass drums resting directly on concrete, asphalt, gravel, etc... Makes me cringe every time.

Yes, an amusing thread! I've got lots of pet peeves with the way kits are set up for pictures. True, many times it's by people who just don't know how drums should be set up. However, here's a picture of a Slingerland Avante kit that is currently for sale by a seller that should know better! Really, how difficult is it to get the bass drum level?!!! Granted, this picture isn't as bad as many others I've seen, but you get the picture!

The slightly-off-center hole in the reso head is weighting it to one side I think. :)

Pet peeve is modern, massive 100lb cymbal stands, especially when you look at what Bonham happily used for years....also I don't like black bass drum reso heads but that's strictly personal aesthetics.

That was bugging me more than the tilt of the drum...

Fun thread! One of my pet peeves (and I have many) is leaving the Remo, Evans, or Aquarian logo on a repro vintage logo head:

Even worse is turning the head 180 degrees and leaving the Remo logo at the bottom of the bass head upside-down. Lots of threads here on how to remove the original logo or paint over it. Soap Box

Seeing a set stacked with the snare on top, with the small tom rim chewing on the snares! Arrrgh!

Drummers who can't be bothered with a stand case, but will make 13 trips to get all their stands in.

It's better than it used to be, my modern Ludwig Atlas Standard stands are far lighter than my old Hercules stands.

I always thought the lower end of the boom would make a dandy weapon if you were strong enough to swing it LoLoLoLo

Listing some drums on a kit for sale diameter x depth, and others depth x diameter (on the same kit, in the same ad).
