Rehabing a 65 Clubdate?

Loading...

Hey all, first post here on this forum. I'm a regular over at Drumsmith and was pointed over here when I scored a set of 65 Clubdates in Sky Blue Pearl. 14x20, 8x12 and 5x14 Jazzfest.

I've got a bunch of stuff to start cleaning the drums up with. The nickel is dirty gray, not shiny at all but the wrap looks really nice. Can't wait to see how they'll turn out!

I've got a question about the bass drum: are the T rods and claws supposed to be nickel if the bowties are nickel? I'm missing the front hoop and the claws/T's for it, but the eight claws/T's on the back almost appear to be chrome.

The bass drum hoop is a bit warped (the shell is fine, though), so what are the opinions: find period correct hoops and put new Sky Blue Pearl inlays in them, or order new hoops and inlays from Precision and make repro hoops? I may just flip the kit, so I'm undecided how much time and $$$ I should put into it.

Thanks-

Mike

Ive never heard of a drumset where they mixed up chrome and nickel.

For the hoop - how about trying to straighten it? Try laying it on the floor and then put a piece of something like 3/4" ply on it then pile some weights (cement blocks, tool boxes, obese feline) on it and leave it for awhile, at least overnight. Nothing to lose.

If you can't straighten it, I see used ones all the time on eBoo that putting a new pearl strip on wouldn't be a biggie to do.

The fade on those wraps- excellent - they went grey-green ! Cool1 What'd you use to clean the lugs  And no - the bass rods wouldn't have been chrome:2Cents:

That tom hardware did clean up nicely! If you order new inlay, it probably won't match up well. Either way, the cost of the hoops and other parts will really add up quickly. . .

0000 Steel Wool to take the haze off and then Cape Cod Polishing Cloths to shine them up a bit.
