Help with Slingerland Champagne Sparkle

Loading...

Hi, all - I picked up a nice three-piece Slingerland Champagne Sparkle kit yesterday. 20/13/16. Lots of goodies came with the purchase - I plan to sell them off to pay for the drums. Can anyone help me nail down the model and year of manufacture? I'm guessing 1968-69, based on serial numbers and the set-o-matic bass drum tom mount. No dates inside, but I did find one stamped "P."

Thanks!

P.S. - the drums came with vintage vinyl bags and seem to have been stored in them for many years. The wrap is in really nice condition. Do you see anything that isn't original?

Thanks again.

Tension rods and claws on BD are not original. Pretty easy fix. BD hoops are '74-up with chrome inlay. '68-'69 +/- for that serial number. Are the other serials close? Set-o-matic should be aluminum for '68 into late '69. Fairly minor details. Wrap looks good.

Hi rusticdrummer!

The serial number provided points to around 1968. As to a specific catalog model, that can be tough. However, looking at the catalog 69, for model year 1968, my guess is that your drums could have been part of the Gene Krupa 1N or the Cusatis 4N. Both kits were cataloged with those bass and tom sizes. While the 4N was shown with an 8x12, the catalog clearly shows that you could substitute the 9x13 for no additional cost. What a deal!

I also noted that the bass drum has non-original bass drum claws and tension rods and that the hoops have chrome inlay strips. These would have been matching champagne sparkle. Hope all this helps.

Nicely clustered. "Born together". Probably Krupa 1N as Mark stated.

Thanks again. I may have to pick up a matching snare - and if I could find a 14-inch floor tom to add, I would be thrilled.
