This is like finding the master reel of Robert Johnson's 30th song hidden in someone's utility closet. What an incredible find. I hope the family has the kit appraised and insured. What a treasure.

More like finding an abandoned, mint 1932 Duesenberg in someone's garage (I like car analogies). I've never seen a Top Hat & Cane set with original heads. The hat and cane on the bass head mimic the wrap perfectly. A factory option perhaps?

Thanks for sharing that rare gem.

Well all I can say is fab---u---lous. Love to see more pics of this kit. Been reading the full history. Seriously as a drummer collector and restorer I'm jealous. Ive seen maxwells and donns but this kit with the heads is top of the crop. I think all has been said. All the best to you and the family who own this gem. Thanks for sharing.......sean.

Fantastic kit. If Dick Vandenburg is not the original owner and his initials are on the BD head then how can that head be original?

If you look close the DV is in much whiter color but with some black starting to show thru. I am pretty sure he painted over the original initials and added his.

The heads are original, but there is no way to know when the picture was added as in the catalog, it states that you can submit a picture to be added to to the head but it did not come standard with the set.

Wow, fabulous piece of history and great story. I find it fascinating how much of the fundamental design from 80-year old drums remains in modern drums. Even more fascinating are things like the floor tom stand -- never seen anything like that before. What a treasure!

OK, modified original. From a purists point of view no longer original.
