Pretty much as a group of geezers it’s tough to weigh tangible from the rest

I've only seen really good deals or rare items sell recently.

I've pretty much got all the vintage drum items I want. In fact, I have too much and need to start selling! Yes, it's a buyer's market and I'll really take a beating if I sell. If you look at eBay as a guideline, there's too much stuff being offered for way more than it's worth. Complete drums, usually snare drums, sell for much less than they are worth. This is why I see so many sellers parting out drums. I don't condone this, but when it's simply a matter of $$$, this is what's happening. Certain "vintage" drums will always be in demand, but for the rest of our collections, do we just hang onto them because we paid high prices? I've got so many snare drums just sitting in boxes, but the thought of selling them for a fraction of what I paid for just makes me think I should just hold onto them and let others worry about them when I'm gone! The other issue is that the time and energy required to sell drums is just becoming too much work!

Buyer's market? I don't see much of a market at all!!! I pay attention mostly to ebay (maybe that's my problem???) & am beginning to wonder if most sell on reverb, et al.

I haven't seen a snare let alone a full 1960's vintage (downbeat, club date) kit worth going after in ages on ebay.

So i wonder if the vintage market has been exhausted. And then i wonder, if so, why haven't prices followed a upwards bit.

I have some fully detailed collector quality snares that have been sitting for ages online. Priced at the top, no doubt - but within the past 5 years i'e sold them for what i'm asking (last 1-2 years, not so much).

I've given up on selling. And i hate that. I loved finding good items, trying to make them a little better and find them a new home. Loved working with buyers and meeting new people. Tough to do right now though...at least through my eyes.

I agree in part to most of the comments. There are some deals but you do need to hunt for them. I am getting pretty tired of the "rare" drums on the bay when there are 20 of the identical drum and all going for unrealistic prices. I have tried to make deals with some sellers to have the bay block me for a week for reaching out to sellers trying to get a fair price, even though I would buy through the bay. I am like Mr Layton where I love finding the gem in the rough and bringing it back to life. I haven't started to sell any yet but that will happen in time. Maybe it's the uncertInty in the economy with everything taking place with Prez T that's making people a little skittering with free cash.

But in the long run, I do this because I love vintage drums and enjoy playing and looking at them.

Absolutely right Mike.. I still have my '78 Ludwig Big Beat kit for sale at a price that can only be described as robbery, and still no takers. Everybody want's to score great gear for insulting prices. The only reason i'm selling this kit is because it's not getting used as much as i thought it would, and to finance a much needed vacation this summer. I keep re-posting the ad so it can land on the first few pages every week, and i always end up getting ridiculous offers, even after i stressed in cap letters "NO OFFERS" "NO TRADES" "PRICE FIRM". There'll always be the guys who'll try to low ball thinking the seller may be desperate to sell. If i don't sell it by the end of May, i might have to reconsider my selling price, which i REALLY don't want to do. I would have posted it up here, but i've never shipped anything before, and would be reluctant to do so simply because i'm paranoid that things will go very wrong. :confused: But, you never know. I may just change my mind in the future.

Buying and selling should be enjoyable on these sites. Most of the thieves, and cheats look for easier targets, these forums ask for to much info from people so the bottom feeders feel uncomfortable.

Just make certain the buyer and seller are in constant communication and are aware of everything going on.

I'm a marginal amateur player at best since 2010 and I've owned 7 different kits since then, having sold five. I am less obsessed these days and satisfied with my Ludwig Club date '63 and Slingerland '75 kits. It can consume your life though. I did have the most coveted Camco kit but wasn't at all impressed with it and sold it, making a nice profit :)
