Old Calf skins, worth keeping?

From skins_in_the_game

I am new to the vintage drum scene, where would you suggest I start searching for an old snare drum stand? I know some people have the same swing sensation drums, just not the same wrap. So they might have a stand they would sell.

That stand was part of 41 drum kit hardware. Hardware is model numbered like drum shells are. It`s the cradle that the floor tom sits on that`s damn near impossible to find. I`ll bet someone here could locate one.The catalog scan has the stand model in it too.If you get a whole stand for the parts, just swap out the top piece.

I don`t know if this one is your snare stand. It might be slingy but I don`t know. Is it similar to yours ?

Pure hysteria. Original heads are fab but not so essential to increase value by 20k, or apparently 4-5 times what previous kits have sold for - 80-100k according to some here.

Logic would tell you that excepting prime original condition value will fall within whatever past sales have been. Another kit's diluting the pool of tophat kits. And then the market?

The pros will help you out with valuation. In private. Everything else is hype. The ONLY kits that go for what the word is this kit will sell for have been owned by famous drummers. What rare kit has there been that has sold for stratospheric prices? Name them. I don't know them. Tophat kits are supposed to be the TOP OF THE HEAP ... but leaping to 80-100k simply because there are original heads. Nah.

Was probs wrong about removing heads. But not about playing them with the original heads on the bloody kit. Can't imagine you're playing with knives. And I'm guessing that heads have already been removed to detail the kit???

All those other kits have travel and play ware and tear. They have added, holes, cracks, different this or that,...Like a vintage car, the door, engine and firewall plates gotta match. This kit matches all up. It`s a survivor someone bought, played, stored. I`m willing to bet this kit has yet to change hands. Whoever owns it should keep it. Unless they want that big boat they dreamed of.

It is of course condition condition condition on top of rarity. But there are limits to things here especially since it's a drum kit. It is not a rare guitar where, even though that market has been depressed, it would still reach stratospheric prices despite it.

Personally, I have not been watching this thing closely, but from what I know it's probably a 30k to tops 40k. 40k seems very extreme.

Is there a difference between a rare guitar and rare drum to the player ? Of all the THC kits I've seen and researched, this is the one you want, unmolested, excellent condition and family. Of all the owners lined up with their THC, drums, this is the one nobody has.

Yes : the price each is willing to pay for rare items in his field. Collectible guitars are far more valuable than collectible drums. There's no comparison. I think you mentioned Stradivarius ... these put guitars in the kiddie category in terms of prices fetched.

The kindhearted story of the poster coupled with the family he borrowed the kit from is priceless. That he's taken the time to detail it, properly it seems, on his own as a returned kindness is the real story here. That's what got me. Where in this country do you hear $hit like this anymore?

Anyone buying this kit, is willing to pay, and if you have to ask , you can`t afford it. I know what you mean though. I`m a SONOR guy that would walk past this kit.

Your right about Skins, he sounds down to earth and i don`t mind telling the guy what he should know. selling it is his deal, remember, he came here looking for what we here are good at.
