As I stand here in my Sunday best, a red dress with matching bag and heels, I take offense at being referred to as an old lady!Hobbs, the cautions are all about preserving something as rare as a unicorn for future generations. There are only 16 (now 17) of these kits that are known to exist on planet Earth. Well worth exercising a bit of caution when handling them. You wouldn't tell a rank beginner to wail away on a Stradivarius. Same goes for this kit.Just being an old lady... but for a good reason I think. Can't help myself. I LOVE drums. And... the way silk feels when it rubs up against my bird! :DJohn

Hey, hot stuff. Nice legs! If he sounded like he was abusing them then, great, better to get another kit. But he isn't. So, literally, bang away. You gals make it sound like any little thing is going to unravel them. Bet you $20 Maxwell + Curotto would say play them with care.

All due respect, Purdie, but violin construction vs drum construction are two different animals not even in the same family. And a Stradivarius is worth upwards of $45 mil to the mere 20k+ of this kit.

Simply respectfully disagree. No offense.

So base drum is done, I noticed the feet/legs looked so shiny I did not even have to clean them. amazing. The paint around the rim is a bit worn off in spots from the places that the tom mounting rail and cymbal and feet attach but that is expected. You might notice some felt showing around the rim, There was a piece of felt that the previous owner had inside the rim that cover half the head. I guess for muffling. Anyway it is all cleaned up. And you will all be happy to know that I went out on craigslist and bought a beginner set to beat on so that this kit will no longer feel my wrath. Thought the new set sounds so harsh and tingy in comparrison.

You`ve got the BD reso head. Is that an A or 4 in the numbers. Most here know what you have. If you don`t play it for a spell, you can`t be one of the few, the proud, the top hat drummer.

Did I mention you have the BD reso head ?

Guys, he has the BD reso head. You wont find a Top Hat with one. There are a few kits out there, very few, and none have that head. I don`t see a F`n thing wrong with that kit.

So I an new to drums and have been banging around on a very old set of ludwigs, pre 50 that I have barrowed from the wife of a deceased relative. The Ludwig heads on the toms are really darkened by stick marks and even some possible liquid. They sound ok but I am cleaning up the set so that when I retun it, it will have more value if she wants to sell it. So question is, do the old heads add or take away from the value?Here is a picture of the set before I started cleaning it. Amazingly all parts, tension rods and springs are practically like new so far I have cleaned all of drum parts and only one rod had a few small spots of rust on the screw part. All the chrome parts are near mint except the rims but they polished out really well with chrome polish.

Hey guy. Your soft cleaning is it, do no more. Dirt and dust hold moisture so soft clean it. If you change the heads, it`ll go from a hundred grand to nut`n. Personally, The owner should keep it. If they put it on the auction, do your homework both here and elsewhere. You got the BD reso head !i Nobody has that.

You're right- I've never seen a top hat and cane reso head.

I was just thinking about trying to explain to your insurance agent that you had a $30k drum set stolen or lost in a fire, but it didn't belong to you. Not sure how that would work.

I know this is off topic, but there are limits to what your home owners policy covers. I got a separate policy to cover my drums and PA equipment whether they're in or out of the house. It blew me away at the amount it added up to and I'm not really a collector.

There are owners here that will bid on just that head, but that kit so far is as it left the factory. I don`t think any of the other guys can say that. That kit`s all there. You see how clean it`s coming ? Soft clean and bang.

Now if Skins will give us a complete photo shoot in good lighting outside in the sun. Few minutes wont hurt it.
