On a good day that's a $20,000. drum kit. I hope he doesn't do any damage to the wrap or hardware with the cleaners... Steve Maxwell is going to need fresh underwear after he sees them.

Too many great drums to list here!

And for a good story, do you know the history on this particular set? I saw you mentioned they belong to the wife of a deceased relative.. we would all love to hear any stories associated with it. Or even photos of the relative that may have played these.

I just discovered what these were 7 days ago. I plan to go to see her tomorrow and show her the pictures of how I have polished them and tell her there worth. I will see if she will let me continue to play them, minus a few parts that will wear, snare coils, pedal etc. Those I will set aside for the day that the set goes to her kids inheritance or if she decides to sell it.

What an amazing kit. I just looked at the snare drum in the gallery and it’s in incredible shape. Please post more photos when you get a chance.

My plumber tells a story of doing some work for an elderly woman who was struggling financially to even pay him. He noticed an old photo on the wall of the woman’s deceased husband playing guitar in a “big band”. He could only make out the headstock, but it looked like a Gibson. When he asked her about it, she pulled it out from under her bed and opened the case to a late 50’s Les Paul burst!

In what I think is a heroic act of integrity, he got her in touch with a local guitar appraiser rather than taking advantage of her. The appraiser offered her six figures. I’m not sure if the story is true, or how it all ended up, but I hope I can fight back the devil on my shoulder if it ever happens to me. Good karma like that is priceless!

I had the meeting with her and she had no idea they were so valuable. I explained that they could sell for 20 grand and that if she wants me to return them I would do so immediately. She told me that she will talk to her children(all older then me, in there 50s and above) to see what they want to do, but as far as she was concerned, I would be the best care taker for them for now, and could keep playing them as long as I treated them nicely.

Then she floored me by saying that if the kids do decide that it would best to sell them, that I should be the one to broker the deal and take a 10% fee for my trouble. I told her that could be 2000 dollars and she said that would be fine for my efforts. She is such a sweet lady I don't think I would take that much money off the sale of her drums but I guess 1000 dollars would help me start a drum project of my own.

So in the end it will come up the kids mutual decision as to the future of the drums.

Perhaps that kit makes No. 16. There were 15 known to exist before, according to Maxwell. According to Donn Bennett there are about 20 existing. He has an interesting video on them:
