PREMIER APK MKIII | Help with screws and Tune Lugs

Loading...

Hey guys, I am restoring my old beaten up 97 Premier APK MK III.

I am having an issue with the floor tom (16").

So, the floor tom has this piece of the lug "loose" (IMAGE A, highlighted in Red), so I cannot take the screw off.

I need a new Tune Lug and I wonder if I can buy a "compatible" one. Like these ones below. Do you guys know if there's something that will work, available somewhere to buy?

https://www.thomann.de/gb/tune_lugs.html

Also, I will need the screw too (IMAGE B, highlighted in red, next to the kick drum screw, for comparison). Where can I get new screws?

Thank you, very much.

The lug is the decorative metal piece that attaches to the shell with mounting screws.

Inside of the lug is a removable threaded piece called the insert nut.

The "screws" that go into the insert nut are called tension rods.

You may only need a new insert nut and a new tension rod.

Close up pics of the inside of the lug sir.

First, you need to find out what thread size your tension rods and insert nuts are.

They will be the same.

Standard American tension rods and insert nuts are 12-24.

Number 12 Screw with 24 threads per inch.

Yours may be metric.

Take some pieces to the hardware store and determine the thread size.

The tension rods are standard 7/32". These lugs are notorious for snapping, one remedy is to change to longer mounting screws than the standard ones as they don't screw far into the lug itself. The mounting screws are M4, I replaced mine with 12mm long ones.

If I can buy a compatible new one, that'd be my main option.

If not, can you guys tell me if any of these Cabria ones are compatible with my 97 XPK?

Tension rods are plentiful on ebay, I wouldn't imagine a hardware store would keep them.

Cabria rods will be identical

The ones in the last link are a later example but are near identical. Are you after lugs or just the screws? If you are on facebook join the group "Premier Drums and Percussion" plenty of members on there will have used APK/XPK lugs

Great. Near identical but they will fit into the holes, same spacing, right? It will work.
