Ludwig 1965 wrap?

Loading...

I Have a set of Ludwig drums which I have thought were black diamond pearl.

Could they be the 1964 Oyster blue Diamond pearl? is there another color that has the same pattern as Black Diamond but is a lighter color, almost grea. It does look like there is a blue color in the wrap when you look at it through a loupe. I am fumbling around here since i have only posted once or twice. I uploaded an attachment of a floor tom for anyone to tell me the correct color of the wrap. I have always called this black diamond pearl thinking that there were two shades of black diamond. . I would like to know if I am calling this black diamond and it is really Oyster Blue Diamond instead. Someone please help. I have gone to the drum forum site where the catalogs are but I can barely make out the names of the colors. The zoom in feature only moves in once and then out and it does not get close enough. I would appreciate any help. Please let me know if the attachment didn't work...

Its either a faded sky blue pearl or a faded black diamond pearl. Either way, its faded.

I agree with the feedback thus far.

That's DEFINITELY Sky Blue Pearl.

I've got a '63 kit in the identical finish.

The figuring in the finish screams "Blue Diamond Pearl!!!", but I've never seen a BlueDP wrap with absolutely no tint of blue anymore. Is the wrap cracking everywhere? THAT would be a good indication of it being BlueDP, too...

That has to be Sky Blue Pearl. Those drums show a directional pattern and the SKB was directional while the BDP was random. Just a thought.

Thats true, I forgot about that. Black Diamond Pearl is a random pattern, whereas sky blue pearl is a directional pattern like white marine pearl is.

Definitely a faded sky blue pearl then.

Yep -- sky blue pearl for sure.

It's common for SBP to fade to a slate grey. Sometimes it even takes on a greenish tinge.

There's a digression about Luddy Sky Blue in this thread:

...no doubt, that is what it is. It can fade to so many different hues, depending on where it spent its life....
