Heavy 18" Ride 2045 grams!

I just got this black logo Pearl CX-500 ride and noticed when I picked it up how heavy it was. Anybody know of any 18" cymbals weighing this much (2045 grams)? Pretty cool cymbal though...it actually has a good ride sound since it is so heavy....most 18" rides I have heard don't really sound like rides, lol.

That's pretty heavy for an 18" for sure. How does it sound?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing....they must have copied Zildjian with the hollow logo :)

I haven't got to play it a ton but it has surprising good stick definition and the bell is good too. It may be the only "crash/ride" that I have ever used that actually sounds good as a ride! As a crash it is dark with low sustain. I will do a demo before too long and put it up on youtube.

That's a cool sounding ride! Heavy for sure, but also seems very controllable, most likely because it's brass.

It reminds me of the original Zildjian K. Customs that came out in the late 80's. They originally came in 16", 18" and 20" sizes, but the 16" and 18" were discontinued shortly thereafter. Those were fairly heavy rides, but were crashable and controlled. The K Custom rides ever since have been very heavy and pingy and not very crashable.

That's a very versatile ride you have. I nice choice to go to in your arsenal.

Always a good thing to be compared to a Zildjian K :) I could never find any info as to if these MIJ Pearl cymbals are b8 or brass....so you think it is brass?

It's for sure brass. You can tell by the color and the tarnish. B8 cymbals have a more copper-ish color. Brass tarnishes much more quickly than bronze. Brass cymbals are also notorious for rusting. The original Zildjian "Scimitar" line were brass, and I've seen quite a few of those that were rusted, especially top hi-hat cymbals for some reason.

The Zildjian has a better, to me, wash, yours had a better, to me, stick sound up until the bell. I like the firetruck sounding bell of Zildjians, your has that kinda diner bell sound.

Nobody "smacked" them.

Cool observations! For $50 I'm pretty happy with this cymbal :)
