Ludwig Pink Oyster pearl?

From K.O.

My point was simply that the re-issue Oyster Pink was made in a different manner than the original stuff and doesn't look exactly the same as the old stuff, regardless of where it came from. I'd want to know which type they were offering to make before committing to buying any.Someone could still have it done the old way if they sensed there was enough of a market for it though. They still do the 60's vintage OBP using the original method. The new mod orange is made the old way and I think the recent Blue/Olive oyster was done that way as well, as are the various onyx style wraps. Oyster Pink could likewise be re-created closer to the original but the minimum order to do so represents a steep financial hurdle, even if it is only 90 sheets.

KO, I think we're on the same page.

IMO: The pink oyster everyone knows and digs these days is the pink oyster they see, half faded out.

Just like the re-issue pink oyster from 2009.

As for trying to do an exact match of the original pink oyster, Delmar could match the colors bit not the pattern. Kinda like the new mod orange.

I'm still hoping someone can answer my question: How much for the 90 sheets?

Come on, OP. You have to know.

Again, I will mention this:

Our very own member, "Compact Drums", has a wrap company called "Walopus". They make Pink Oyster Pearl Wrap.

Why all the nonsense about getting 90 sheets from Delmar? Why not give a fellow forum member the business? There is no minimum order quantity. And we're helping a fellow forum member's business. Win/Win.

It's not the same thing though. Walopus (and Bum Wrap) use computer generated graphics laminated in clear plastic. Nothing wrong with that and it may look very nice but it isn't the same thing as the drum wraps used on vintage drums.

I have purchased wrap from both and they do make high quality wraps but it is also different from traditional wrap and perhaps not everyone's cup of tea.

A few days back ebay had a set. 3 piece in what they said was Rare Pink oyster pearl. They were asking 4,500. Well the set isn't there so I assume it was pretty rare and got picked up quickly.Just curious if anyone has a set like that, heard of it? Saw the ebay auction? Not looking for a set like this myself, but figure to collectors rarity means a lot.Thoughts?

Here's a Youtube video of a primo set that was available 3 years ago. Don't know how much they were selling it for, but it could not have been cheap.

Hopefully I won't offend anyone by saying this, my advance apologies if I do, but that Walopus oyster pink looks nothing like the original OPP, in fact, it's pretty hideous.

It is a different version of POP wrap. However I do know that if you send them samples via scans of any old wrap they can recreate it. I sent the scan for this wrap that I had half of ( the other half was ripped off ) And he got it dead on.

Wow. It's always interesting when old posts come up.

A couple of thoughts:

1) When I contacted Delmar, it never reached a point of an "offical quote." It was a telephone conversation... and IF I remember correctly, the first price mentioned to me was around $70 per sheet. That was too big of an investment for me then, and still is for me now. Please let me emphasize this info is based upon a telephone conversation, and even I won't completely trust my memory from one conversation 6 years ago!

2) As many of you reading this may know (but no, I'm nowhere near as active in this forum as I used to be), my focus is usually on the Pearl FG and WFG drums of the 70s. And let me tell you: NO ONE in their right minds would want the reproduce the cheap oyster wrap (pink or blue) that they used in that time period. What they used then was such cheap quality (and NEVER glued down) it would wrinkle, stretch, crack, etc. over time. I've had drums with both in my hands numerous times... and they have almost always ended up being rewraps. So, reproduction by today's standards would be a much better path to follow, at least for Pearl's.

Man oh Man! That's the stuff of dreams right there. Is that the same set mentioned in the earlier posts from 5 years ago? Stellar!
