Anyone know if you can replace the rubber mount the bottom hi hat cymbal sets on, mine is a little rough? Not sure what the piece is called.
60's Ludwig Hi Hat repair
Your best bet will probably be one of these....

Gibraltar SC 4980J . It's black nylon but will look similar to the original black rubber piece. Be sure to hang on to the original...or sell it. someone will want it.
That reminds me...many years ago I went to the local music store to get one of these same hi-hat cups for my own Ludwig 1123 which was missing the original black rubber one. The store always had one hanging on the pegboard but on the day I finally needed one it was gone. I happened by another music store, a little hole in the wall place, and asked him if he happened to have one...he dug around for a few minutes and brought out almost the same thing only in white nylon. I said that would work but was hoping he had one in black. He said to hold on a minute and went back in the back. As he walked back towards the counter he said "Well the only black one I have is this one here" as he held up an original black rubber new old stock Ludwig one. "Will this do the trick for ya?" "Uh...yeah...uh, I think I can make that work". "Gonna have to charge you five bucks though, the white one would only be four". "That's okay...I'll take the black one...do you happen to have any more of these...you know for a spare." "Nope, just that one".
I wish stuff like that would happen more often.
Thanks, I just ordered one.

K.O.!!
Loved your story...and exactly the reason why I miss all these smaller "mom and pop" stores from the past. They always seemed to have these items laying around somewhere and were usually more than happy to go search for it.

I have a "Mom & Pop" story of my own, about the Ludwig 1123-1 hi-hat stand to boot!
I used to travel a lot for my "real" job (LOL). I still work for the same company, but our parent corporation took over the duties that I used to travel for. I miss it a lot. Anyway.....
I would also always seek out local and small music stores in the cities or towns I was in. I can't remember where I was, but they had a really small "drum" section, mostly with a few generic kits and some generic hardware. This one though, had one of those plastic containers with all sorts of small drawers for spare parts. They had the usual tension rods, cymbal felts, washers etc. When I opened up one of the larger drawers at the bottom, I had to do a double (and triple) take. The drawer was full of the plastic connector pieces that connect the foot board to the U-shaped yoke that the bottom pull rod threads into (circled in red in the attached picture). There were literally 20 of them in this drawer. All black ones, and all had never been used. I bought the whole lot. They were 35 cents a piece. When the owner saw that I was buying the whole lot, he said to me "How about 5 bucks"? I said "SOLD"! I certainly didn't need 20 of them, but that's a pretty rare part to have. And the price was certainly right!
By the way jgm911t,
Pearl makes a replacement part too, but if I recall correctly it is too narrow and won't fit the Ludwigs? Anyway, at the price it's worth a shot.
You'll probably find that the Gibraltar seat is too big, there is a little trick that I have done in the past to work around it, though:
Put the seat on your upper post and mark with a Sharpie where the seat goes down to on the post. Then, remove the seat and take some duct tape and cut it so the width of the tape is the same as the distance from the top of your post to the Sharpie mark. Then, wrap that area with a few laps of duct tape. The idea is to make your upper post a little bit thicker so the seat fits tight. Experiment with more or less tape, but usually about 2-3 layers works. You'll probably have to pound the seat on with a rubber mallet, but it will hold tight, and the tape will be covered by the seat so you won't see it.
I've also had to use this "trick" for putting rubber feet on some spurs that were a little too narrow for the feet. Works great on that as well.
Hope this helps!

I too was going to mention that the Gibraltar is a tad big. At least it has been on the 1123 models that I have used it on. I had some plastic tubing that I cut and split and made a tight fitting sleeve. Worked great.
Nice find on those connectors V. If that's your 1123-1 in the pic, I dig it. That's a very early one,mid 60's that used the same board (font on the stamping) as the 1123 before it.

The Gibraltar's description says it will fit a tube from 1" to 5/8th's". Not sure exactly how they accomplish that but the top tube of an 1121, 1123, 1123-1 and 1124 are all 5/8ths" diameter so this cup should work. Perhaps some McGuyver-ing will be required though.
I've got the whole of that Gibraltar SC4980J on my 1123-1. Works perfectly. When I got the stand most of the hat seat was missing and the Gibraltar one seemed the best choice.
Without taking mine apart to check, I seem to remember that it has two different ways the tube can attach to the seat, which is how it can handle two diameters of tube.
Let's see if I can "draw" a cross section using symbols on the keyboard. This is the black portion which sticks out at the bottom of the whole assembly:

.......^............^
......5/8" tube fit
^..........................^
one inch tube goes over the whole black portion
A 5/8" tube goes into the slot (drawn as ||) and the 1" tube goes over the whole of the black portion. That means it handles just two different sized tubes rather than all intermediate sizes from 1" to 5/8".
Thanks to all for the info. Mine should be coming any day and i'll let you know how it fits. By the way I'm pretty good at McGuyver-ing!
