Newbie Again

Loading...

Hi all, I recently found the Vintage Drum Forum again after a few years and I'm happy I did. I collected for about 20 years but once I moved to Florida, the market at least for me, dried up. Not much here compared to New York. If there is something out there the real old timers (I'm just a old timer) who are up at 4:00 beat me to it. Anyways great to be back. Since I have your ear, I was trying to relive being 15 years old by tracking down a kit similar to my first kit. 1950's Rogers Holiday, gold sparkle, bread and butter lugs (I know, I know), nickel hardware, pre swivo, sizes 13-16-22. I paid $60 in 1967. I searched the net with negative results even regarding photos with the exception of a 1957 catalog.

Hello Butchie...and Welcome to the forum!

Going back in time and reliving our youth by finding our first kit always seems to be a favorite with many of us! What you're searching for could take some time, but don't give up. You never know what's out there!

My Rogers kit or a 60's Ludwig red sparkle Downbeat kit which I had twice! One more time hopefully.

Welcome to the VDF! The Rogers may take a while but those red sparkle Downbeats should be fairly easy to come across. I'll keep my eye out and let you know if I see any around.

Thanks I appreciate it Brewkowski. Seen a few on the Bay, but not just it if you know what I mean.

Found a 60s red sparkle on Reverb! It has an added tom mount as opposed to the original rail, but overall it looks pretty nice

Being a stickler and a puritan I can't pull the trigger on it but I shall proceed and conquer! Thank you for your effort!

No problem! Check out Three On The Floor vintage drums. The owner is Chris Ardoin and he sells some of the nicest vintage drums you'll find. Also check Gary Bender's Drum Factory. Both can be found on Facebook if you are on there.

Good for you!

The LAST thing I want is my first kit again... It was a stencil in WMP- 20,12,16. Hated it.

Butchered it to add to my second kit (the Powersonic) which then all got re-painted china red and became my third kit.

Finally I got my first "real" kit (the blue one) and I'm not letting go.
