vintage lowboy and snowshoe hi hats

Loading...

About a month ago I bought two cymbals off eBay super cheap having no idea what they were. I've been doing some research and I think I might have one lowboy and one snow shoe cymbal.

I don't have any of the stands and only one of each.

What do you guys know about these? How much could they be worth?

I put pictures below, they appear to have no cracks or keyholing.

10", correct? And the large belled one is probably very thick, right? They're worth exactly what you paid for them, otherwise, someone would have outbid you :p

I have a pair of these old 10" hats, but I use them only when I'm playing Dixieland (I like the period-correct sound). They are wonderful and very different tone-wise, but have a limited application. Enjoy them. Never hurts to have some unique sounds in your cymbal arsenal.

Any identifying stamps on those?

+1 on what Mike said as well.

Sorry about the late response.

Actually the large bell one is a lot thinner than the the small bell one. still kind of thick though.

Couldn't find any stamps on them also.

Thanks for the replies!

The Slingerland Roy Duncan model lo-boy I have came with a large bell stationary 399g and small bell moveable cymbal 543g The fairly thin cymbals look original with the larger bell stationary cymbal even having a slight 'dent' where it is mounted to the arm. No markings are on either cymbal- (if that helps any!)

That's helps a ton! Thanks!

I looked up some pictures and that's what mine look like.

Mine also have a dent and no markings.

Any idea on the value?

Sorry- I'm not an expert on value/ just been a collector of fun old stuff!- I was 'told' the value of the Roy Duncan lo-boy complete could get around $300- but that was ONE individual on another site- So without the stand (cymbals only) I doubt anyone would pay much as they are so limited in their usability... the old small cymbals are rare but nobody wants the 'clangy-ness' unless they play old old jazz.... I have several old small cymbals (some even marked Ludwig) that nobody has an interest in as they sound.... sub-par- being from the 20's-30's ).... not much interest in the OLD vintage 'snow shoe' cymbals- but Keep trying! Maybe somebody will want them/ - I've decided to keep mine for historical purposes since nobody else seems to care!
