I love watching those old Midnight Special shows, seeing all those vintage drums when they weren't vintage. Keep on PlI agree about not having to play the fill note for note, as long as it's in time with the song.
Yes indeed me also! Wolfman Jack as the MC. Some great shows. Also miss seeing "In Concert" shows as well. Many were simulcast on the local FM stations which was great. Fun times.

So 8upwithit posted a simple phrasing of the fill... best while learning to just play that fill continuously along with the recording a couple of times thru... play just the fill.. you will not forget it then..

I figure you don't read sheet music so I wrote out some guidelines.
The first picture is breaking down "counts" by quarter notes, eighth notes and sixteenth notes and applying a vocalization to each note. In 4/4 time, like Sister Golden Hair, there are four quarter notes, eight eighth notes and sixteen sixteenth notes.
The second picture is the rhythm you're trying to play and the vocalization of the count.
Picture three is where the Golden Hair rhythm stands in relation to the quarter, eighth and sixteenth note counts of the 4/4 bar.
The fourth picture is where the rhythm is played on the kit. It moves from snare to rack to floor.
This is how you'd play it.
You know Zach... seeing it written as you did is very helpful from a self improvement perspective. Although I do read basic 4/4 stuff I would not have been ABLE to play the fill just based on seeing it written. But... combining it with the counted 1 e & a text it all makes sense. THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DO THAT... your effort combined with the others made me a better drummer.D' Drummer
Another articulation, since this fill is a relatively fast single-stroke roll with accents -

I find it helps to start with the basic triplets or straight ss roll that a given fill "sits in".....that's what I find. :)
