Chinese Drums with 20's and 30's Kits

Loading...

Hey guys and gals,

What did Ludwig, Ludwig and Ludwig and or Leedy call these Chinese Floor Toms in the cradles.

Did other Companies sell these with their kits also?.

Like Gretsch or Slingerland?

I have cradle like the one in pic and finally figured it out that my stand/cradle is for one of these round bottom drums.

I guess these toms were sold in the 20's and 30's.

These Chinese drums were eventually phased out.

They sure were pretty cool looking.

Any Chinese Floor Tom info. is appreciated.

OK, so I did a little research.

So these were Chinese ceremonial drums.

They were the first tom toms for the drum set.

Introduced in about 1920 and were used through the 1930's.

Ludwig and all of the major companies imported them and sold them with their kits.

I would like to find one.

Good research there. I was familiar with them but not enough to really comment. If you've got a cradle, you're already way ahead of the game. That's for sure. Good luck in your search.

Great looking kit!

I am in the process of pulling together a 1923 Ludwig Tango trap kit.

I have been getting various noise makers for the tray. What do you have on your kit?

I have found period specific/Ludwig tuned cowbells, slide whistle, 3-tube whistle, and a nice Rudy Vallie clapper, two tone wood block, sizzle cymbal. Am searching for temple blocks. Any suggestions as to add ons? Will basically be a showcase piece in my LR. Thanks!
