New ludwig p-88 throw and butt plate

So finally, after decades of ignoring the public's demands for a more modern, beefier throw-off and butt plate replacement for most Ludwig snare drums with drum key bolt screws, Ludwig has come out with the new P-88 throw-off and butt plate. It apparently retrofits onto most, if not all vintage and modern Ludwig snare drums, and comes with extra hole spacings and screws to fit different sized snare drums. The 1st Atlas throw-off had issues as well as many complaints such as the strainer tension dial locking and not being able to moved while snares were engaged, a very thin, disc-like tension knob which made it quite difficult on the finger tips and annoying to turn, and finally the very short throw handle, which has now been made slightly longer, making it a breeze to engage and disengage snares, even while playing with both sticks. Well, looks like all those issues have been addressed and mods made..Drumsonsale.com will have them in stock, and i'll be picking up couple for sure. Not in hurry to do so, but these won't be available to the public until April, as it states on the DOS website. Hopefully some of you will chime in and give your opinions ?

Cheers,

Rob

That adjustable butt plate will be nice. Appears that it can replace those large gaudy die cast models if I read that correctly.

The throw looks a lot like INDE drums, which wouldn't be a surprise since Josh, the owner of INDE drum was the engineer behind the new Atlas line when he worked at Ludwig...

latzanimal- It looks very similar, and probably the reason why it looks like that. The redesigned tension knob is thicker, just like the INDE one designed by Josh Allen. Maybe Ludwig has rights to the design ?..I actually sent an email to INDE and Josh Allen himself responded to me. I remember asking if he would come out with a replacement butt plate for the vintage P-32 and he said they'd be working on something for the future, and mentioned that for some reason it would be difficult to make one because of some design issues. Not quite sure what that meant, but i'm sure they'll eventually come up with one..

Rob

Mike- It does look great, and will be able to replace both. A lot less metal than the P-33, and sleeker than both P-32-33..Ludwig also came out with the first ever, made in the USA drum kit under $1000 USD. First time any drum company has done that. The series is called Neusonic, and they look and sound fantastic. Comes with 4 finishes, Sugar Maple, Black, Matt Blue and White Cortex. I'll be definitely checking them out when they arrive here. They're also apparently very light weight, something similar to the Signet, with lightweight hardware and mini elite lugs.. Perfect for the gigging drummer .Cool1

Has anyone been able to check out those Neusonic's yet? Very intriguing.

From what i've seen on the Ludwig website and facebook page, they sound phenomenal. They literally are the perfect gigging kit. Lightweight, minimalist hardware, durable Formica type wraps, made in the U.S factory, and finally the price.. Under a $1000.. I would consider these drums to be this generation's Rocker kits which were a mid-range series that was made in the US back in the 80's, only the Neusonic shells are perfectly made, while the Rocker shells were patched up, imperfect high end shells..I think Ludwig has a definite winner in these drums.Cool1

I’m going to have to give one of these new P-88’s a try on my 90’s Blackro, the original P-85 is sticking and a general pain in the butt to adjust because of those darn Philips head screws that are on the throwoff and butt plate. The new one seems to FINALLY have drum key screws! :)

Those Neusonics look and sound amazing, IMO. Ludwig will probably have a hit with these!
