B/W Badge Ludwig Snare

I was curious if anyone had info on dating this snare. I'm not familiar with these lugs. It has the b/w badges are like on Rocker kits...that's about all can figure out.

Can't help on the date. That should be a steel shell imported model that Ludwig sold.

Wonder if it is any good? I'm sure it isn't up to the USA made standards. The black/white badge threw me off...thinking it was a USA drum.

Many of the black/white badges were imports, even the brass and bronze models that you see from time to time. The Black Galaxy Acrolite was a USA made drum as well as some of the Chrome over Wood models. When you see the lugs that are on the one in question, import drum for sure. Everybody needs a good steel snare in their arsenal!

How much is it? If the price is right, it might be a good-sounding addition to your rig.

Don't let 'cheap' throw you. It's all in the head selection, the tuning of the heads and the set-up of the snares. That little steel shell will give you a mighty crack if tuned properly. Steel shells (generally) produce a nice -dry- sound. Tuned up high it'll pop nice and loud when you nail it in the middle. Don't pass, or discard the drum without giving it a try out. Cheap does not always mean bad. The player matters, but if you tune them right, maybe add a little moon-gel and you can make some cheap drums sound really good.

Too many great drums to list here!

The snare auction passed but it was around $50. I already have an acrolite and several other snares...so I didn't really need it. I agree though...most steel snares can be tuned up to sound great!
