14" 8 Hole, 1.6mm Triple Flange Drum Hoop, Chrome, By dFd

Cannon lightweight 1.6mm triple flange drum hoop for a 14" drum with 8 lugs. An economical steel drum hoop, useful for replacement hoops on...

Sale Price: $12.34

Our Regular Price: $12.99

We've taken an extra $0.65 (5.00%) off our already low price

I think it would be too much work for what might end up as a spotty, chrome missing rim prone to rusting again.

Hey, $12.34 plus tax and shipping is not bad at all.

But if it is vintage and there is sentimental value...I understand.

From vyacheslav

Spray the rusty part down with some CLR and then scrub the absolute bejeezsus out of it with a small wire brush like the size of a toothbrush. Rinse it often and then repeat the process.Yes, the wire brush will leave fine scratches, but it's the only way TIPS:Small, toothbrush-like wire brushes are available at Harbor Freight or most "Brand Name" hardware stores.

No scratches if you use the brass wire brush. Harbor Freight has small brush sets with Steel, Plastic and Brass bristles.

Old School, I've had a couple of those that I cleaned up as best I could and used on a donor drum.

The kid was grateful, and that was good enough for me, and him.

Thanks to all for your input. In regard to the use of Evapo-Rust, I'm a big believer in that product, based on past experience. However, the thickness of the rust on certain spots of this rim, is ridiculous. Perhaps I'll just save this one for a "spring cleaning" project that I can work on outdoors in a few months. I also like your idea, Kevin. Thanks!

6" fine wire wheel mounted on a bench buffer will knock the rust off and take it down to bare metal. After that some good quality car wax will help to seal it so the rust doesn't come roaring back. Can be saved...

From OldSchool

Thanks, John!

Don't thank me yet buddy. That's assuming there is still some sound metal under all that corrosion. Good luck my friend. If the rust is all up on the surface you'll be able to save it.

Soak that rim in some of that dollar store white vinegar. It will eat that rust off completely. You may lose some chrome but it will definately still be useable.
