Could I take my extra Tower T’s to a machine shop and have them cut down to Holiday T’s?? Is that crazy??

You can do that yourself with a tap and die set. I've done it.

I didn't see this thread before replying to your other one. Yes, it's easy to do yourself. If you feel that you're not up to it, by all means, take the T-rods to a competent machine shop.

I have cut threads in much larger pipe while building pipe railings. I guess there would be enough metal there to practice a bit before doing the final cut. I just don’t have the tools but that might be a good tool set to buy! :)

Thanks!!

At home depot they have a board you can check the threads with then use that number to buy just one tap and die. The kit cost much more and you may never use them.

Will I need the handle the die fits in and some cutting oil? I was at our small town hardware and they could not match the thread... that threw me a bit. I was wondering if I had something odd going on.

Threads should be 12-24. Check first with a nut and bolt.

But,..then on the other hand............

Those long rods are kind of cool and perhaps hard to find again.

You sure you want to cut them sir?

Green glass has a point here Jim. You might want to see if anyone wants to trade. Bobby Chiasson at the drum farm might work something out with you. He does deal in the Tower sets and may just want the longs verses a set of shorts, of which he probably has many more.

Agree on maybe not cutting them. I had the same idea only with some rods from the 30s. I don't know if the steel was different back then or hardened or something but the rod just seemed to laugh at me the second I placed it in the die. Was not going to happen. I think I wrecked a cheap die then bought a better one but no cigar...

NO... I HATE THE IDEA OF CUTTING THEM but I’m having a tough time finding the darn correct parts. I could just put after market rods in and keep the hunt until they finally turn up but these Tower T’s are sitting there unused... I will do some more leg work before I get get cut happy... I fully appreciate that once cut they aren’t coming back!
