ZYN cymbals; made in England

From Jaye

Yar ! Super-Zyns are GOOD cymbals.. Like A. Zildjians of old, although a bit brighter and edgier in tone, a bit less "dark". But they are good.

I graciously stand corrected. I didn't catch the Zyn "SUPER" label in the original post.

But as for the non super: TYN.

Zyn cymbals are absolute junk, Super zyns did however release some nice cymbals but they were hit and miss. The later "5 star super zyn's" were very nice cymbals and are becoming quite collectable nowadays.

I agree with Jaye- Super Zyn are worth collecting if the opportunity arises, but don`t let yourself pay too much. Over a very fine money line is the old 60s Zildjian A. You can weigh the price with a comparable 60s A model and subtract, what?- say, 75$? :2Cents:

That pic at the bottom of the page caught my eye...

I just sent that page to the trumpet player who was on a gig around '90, and he thinks it is Sean Wilkinson, misspelled "Shan".

I played with Sean at the Sheraton Waikiki on an Oktoberfest gig - we had the whole leather lederhosen outfits with the hats. I'd been playing more keyboards and was hired to play accordian, which I was presented with right before I went on stage - I'd never played one before. Sean played drums and was a riot. He still lives in the Big Island and has been dealing with Alzheimer Disease, I'm guessing he'd be in his 90's.

Sean was from Ireland and had played with Spike Mulligan, who George Martin had recorded before the Beatles - you can hear it in "Maxwell's Silver Hammer". Sean, believe it or not, won the Irish Sweepstakes (!). He moved here to Hawaii and was playing vibes with the Don Ho Show. A favorite story was that one night he took a wireless mic in the toilet and did a live broadcast through the pa while Don was singing on stage.

Well, as mentioned above, the Supers were pretty good cymbals.

Unfortunately, their market value is low because the Zyn name is not respected (since the majority of the cymbals they made were bad).

So currently the 18's are worth about $60 each, the 'hats maybe $75-80 for the pair.
