I was once selling a nice silver sparkle Gretsch Round Badge set in 20/12/14 for some kids who found them the trash. Really. Someone threw it out for the garbage man. They rescued it and asked me to sell it for them. I was able to get $2000 for it.

But, the lowball offers were insulting, particularly from the guitarist Popa Chubby. He called me and said his name was Ted Horowitz. I knew who he was. He offered me $400. I laughed in the phone and told him to call me back when he came to his senses, and hung up. He never called back. I got the $2 grand and made a nice commission for selling the set.

You might try raising the price and reel in a low baller at $1000.

If I'm truly interested in a kit, I offer what I want to pay. I don't worry about the seller's feelings. I've had a few get insulted, but I've had a lot accept the offer too. However, I don't try to get the price down so as to leave myself selling space. I try to get it to where I think the fair market value is. Look at the buy-it-now prices for some of the kits on Reverb and eBay. It is no wonder the kits sit for months on end. Then again, I think some seller's are willing to wait a long time to find a buyer at their price and that is fine too.

I have no idea of the value of a kit from that era. It looks pretty nice, but only time will tell if someone is willing to pay $1000 cad for a kit from that era.

I concur!! There are some that just haggle with you until you both reach an agreeable amount and then, "Poof", buyer disappears...I think that haggling is their "high" and have no intention of buying at all...

Not sure its a "high" but more like a "fool and his money"

The internet is a spawning ground for all types of life, unfortunately, some make it their life to waste other peoples time.

However. sellers should stop expecting you to buy something just because you inquired about it. You have to ask questions for a few reasons. One being that's how you learn, and secondly, it could help you avoid being ripped off by the liars and thieves out there.

I have had this happen to me too. You negotiate and then the potential buyer never contacts you again. I wasted too much time chasing some schlub from PA recently who wanted to buy a speaker cabinet I'm selling for a friend. He wanted pictures-I sent them-then, nothing. I sent texts that said, "Do you want the cabinet or not." No answer. I gave up and we decided to pull the old Jensen speakers out, dump the cabinet and sell the speakers.

$1000 CDN is plenty fair for this kit. If you were closer I’d be tempted to buy it. You may have already done this, but personally I’d price it somewhere around $1,250 and let people haggle it down to as low as $1000. Some people just need to get a “deal” no matter what the price.

Say I post something for $100. I get offers for $70

If I post the SAME ITEM for $70, I get offers for $45.

It's a spiraling downward syndrome from the get go.

The value of anything is what someone will pay for it. Just because a seller may have over paid for an item doesn't mean that his asking price is valid. Buyers make low offers because sellers usually accept them. Either way no one can take it personally as it is just business.

So true, its just business. If you are a good negotiator you will do well, but if you wobble, and trip and say "I don't know" to many times, you're dead in the water.

Put on your poker face, remember, no hard feelings here. You don't mean to insult, but all they can say is no thanks, and the ball is back in your court.

Watch Pawn Stars, those guys are good. No messin around. They have to make money as well, just like most of us here.

That's what we do...buy n sell...but remember, no hard feelings.

Yes whatever u price it at keep the mindset of an 80 percent offer is a good offer ! Others will disagree and just say it is the price and is non negotiable. I always offer 80% unless it is a good deal already especially if it is a deal right here on the forum . All the kits i have purchased here were with really exception people , see my feedback. (Purdie shuffle) & (hal)
