A lot of people complain about eBay (fees, w/ever). Perhaps once an alternative, Reverb seems at minimum equally offensive if not worse than eBay. People think it's a musician's site; but I'm not buying it (literally). Prices on R seem often worse than ebay - way back I recall folks excited at the prospect of this alternative.

I just looked at Reverb, and the majority of the sets I saw there, while priced somewhat on the high side, seem to be at least in the ballpark for their stated condition. There are lots of sets on Reverb, perhaps most, that are between $900 and $2000. There are also some others that are astronomically high, presumably related to specific models or specific finishes. Can you give us an example of a ludicrously priced set that they have listed in the $900 to $2000 range? It would help to know what and when the last set you purchased was, and it's price and condition. For me condition is everything. I'm a player, not a hobbyist. I'm not interested in taking 6 months to refurb a set in poor condition. Also, consider that during the Great Recession, prices in general took a major down tick. Prices are just coming back to pre recession levels and even higher.

Original three piece Super Classic Ludwig sets from the 60's and 70's are going up in price. I've bought and sold a few over the last 5 years. It's about time......

Reverb prices for the good stuff seem "off the map" to me.

I was wondering the same, although about snare drums. There are a lot of acrolites listed and selling for $200+ on ebay.

I agree with BEC, it's about time! Prices are coming back to pre recession levels. Regarding Reverb, most of those listings have "Make Offer" buttons. Better to ask high, and take offers if you ask me!Keep on Pl

I see very high prices on Reverb, and sets sitting for months on some occasions. As they sit, the sellers sometimes become antsy and start dropping the prices. But not always. I maintain there are still bargains out there. I bought my sky blue pearl Slingerland set last summer for $500. They're in 9 out of 10 condition.

Hey everybody. I've been a lurker for a long time but own some vintage drums and have been watching the market as a hobbyist for a while now (last 4-5 years). What I have noticed is that the average price that sets sell for now is what was the high range of selling points 4-5 years ago. For example, a set of drums that would go for $400-500 around 2012/2013 is now going for $600-700. I also think that because so many people have created their own vintage drum storefronts (aka people finding buying and selling vintage drums for a living), there are now significantly less drums "out there" to be found.

Additionally, the appeal of vintage drums and percussion has now reached a younger generation of musicians and hobbyists. It used to be all just old ****s with the younger folks speckled in between.

There is a set of Slingerland drums on ebay right now listed at $1700 BIN. They are orphan shells, rewrapped in green sparkle and repaired/plugged holes/replaced hardware etc. IMO that is downright ridiculous- even when you consider that they are 'bop' sizes. I realize that just because they are listed as that does not mean that is where the market is, however if i recall correctly the seller has been dealing in the market fairly regularly for the last couple years, so I assume he knows what price tag he's putting on them.

personally, I think vintage drum storefronts/ individuals who buy/sell vintage drums for a living are the primary culprit for the raise in average selling price.

Then again, it won't be long until pearl exports become 'vintage'.. we're getting further and further away from 1990.

Please define off the map. What kind's of prices for which kits, and can you find them for less elsewhere?

Citrus Mod, Mod Orange, Psychedelic Red, all are never cheap on Reverb, even with issues......If one takes the time to network with other collectors, prices are much lower than Reverb.
