Hey guys,
I need to make a gasket for a lug on my Vistalite bass drum. I'm thinking I just need to find a thick sheet of plastic or mylar and cut one out. If someone has one of these gaskets laying around, can you mic it for thickness please so I know what to get?

I've seen some guys cut out a piece from a milk jug. Correct color too.

Hi Wes, you need a gasket of plastic/mylar material. Why can't you mic one of the other ones on your drum?

Thanks guys. I might try the milk jug trick.
I can pull a lug and mic one for sure and it shouldn't take long. I was just thinking if someone had an extra handy that didnt9mind checking, I wouldn't need to mess with it and with my luck, I could crack a perfectly good vistalite shell re-installing a lug that was fine.
Which brings up another question.
How tight do you go when tightening up lugs on Vistalites? Just snug it up and maybe go another flat of the nut?

I restored a Vistalite snare for a friend years ago, and used a single-ply smooth white Remo for replacement gaskets. Very close to the originals, worked like a charm.
Thanks for the heads up but I'm looking for something to use to get the kit up and going over the next day or 2.
I'm going to try the milk jug or old drum head as suggested.

I ended up cutting a gasket from an old Ambassador head. Worked like a charm. Thanks!
I was wondering why one lug on the bottom of the bass drum was broken off. After taking off the batter head to replace the lug, I found the head was, as the saying goes, "tighter than a drum". The front head was cranked down also. Holy cow, I was afraid there were going to be cracks in the shell but all looked good. While I was in there, checked the bolts on the rest of the lugs. Most needed about a quarter turn to snug them up.

Glad to hear it worked out, Wes. Funny that the bass heads were so tight, but lucky there were no cracks as a result.
