Ludwig Phasers?

Loading...

Ludwig guys,

This afternoon, I purchased a Ludwig Phaser L-600 snare shell with a b/w badge and beige interior at a fantastic price! I have all the parts to make this a player's drum. When I did a bit of research, I really didn't learn too much. Is this snare from the mid-eighties? Basically a Rocker snare? Rocker 2? Before Rocker production? Thanks very much, everyone.

Thank you very much, vintagemore2000! That was a very informative thread. As well as restoring, I also enjoy researching the various drums in which I'm interested. I'll do a bit more later today (when the wife is at work). Thanks again, sir!

I've never heard of a "Phaser" model snare drum before. I know there were Phaser outfits but in that instance the name just refers to a particular combination of regular Ludwig drums (as do all the outfit names, there were no Hollywood or Big Beat or Pro Beat or Phaser drum lines, they were all the same drums in different combinations and those names refer to that particular combination).

Looking at the 1984 catalog (where they seemed to call almost every outfit "Phaser" something or other) on the Rocker series "Phaser Power" outfit the included Snare is referred to as the "L-600 Rocker Series snare".

I've got a couple of these snare drums and they are decent sounding. I like them as if you rewrap them they are a cost effective way to create a matching snare drum for a drum set. A snare that outwardly looks just like a Jazz Festival.

+1 with what KO said. L-600 is the name of the snare drum.

Thanks KO and Mark! I've just done a bit more researching and I know you're right. I'm still learning about Ludwig drums and I find the history fascinating. Thanks again, guys! I really appreciate your help and expertise. I'm just editing my reply. Damn, after a few beers, I just want to let you know that you guys are the best! I have never met any of you but, many of the people on VDF mean more to me than a lot of flesh and blood friends I have. Must be getting sentimental in my old age!

You are SO right, K.O.!!! I have spent weeks obtaining parts. I have put on good heads. I have used Puresound wires. I have tweaked this drum until I thought I would scream. It is still only a "decent" sounding drum. At the same time, I have pampered a vintage Star 6 1/2 inch snare. Same thing. Good heads, Puresound wires and fine-tuning. The Star sounds FAR better! Ahhh...

No, I meant the kind of weapon that should be used against our fellow Canadian, William Shatner if he decides to make another album!!!
