From LUDLOVER

Try finding several of the same items and same condition ect. on e-bay or craigslist and show it to them. I do know that they try to make double what they gave someone for a piece of used gear. I would even use GC's against one another. If GC in texas has the same exact item for $200.00 less throw it in their face. Make some calls to other GC's and ask how long before they lower the price on their used gear. You have to bug them and prove to them that they are asking way to much. That is crazy almost a year and they won't budge. Talk to the manager. Thats why you see the Red Price Drop when your surfing their used gear online. I have also often seen an item priced higher in the store than online. Do research get all of your ammo together and attack.

Oh this particular kit, I was told it was the manager who turned the guy with cash in hand away and won't let them come down on the price. There's also the Hollywood Ace snare that is more than likely really a Student model, but it has the wrong rims anyway.

Also, you want a laugh, search for SOUNDKING. I'm hoping there's a typo there.

Interesting online store front for sure... they got a Slingerland WMP kit in Columbus I'm going to take a look at tomorrow.

I bought my sons guitar and amp from them... maybe they'll cut me a break.

Hmmmm... Looks like a nice 4 piece Rogers silver sparkle in Sherman Oaks CA... can't make it there on my lunch hour.

Hi, G.C. is ok with me,i made alot of money off them from 1990-1999 i sold many vintage snares and sets to the one in hollywood,ca,i would say 90% of the vintage drums came from me.I would name my price and would have a check in my hand...I would fine vintage snares say pay 75.00 for it sold it to G.C. for 300.00 all day long....mikey

Hey Knavel.. champagne Luxor in Arlington TX.

1) Cheers for the heads up Jim. I am sorted on Rogers for the moment as I was only looking for the snare.

Once I get my Gretsch set in ...next week actually!...I'll be able to A/B the two snares and decide what to do.

2) I would also add the following to this GC discussion---perhaps off topic because it's not vintage drums. I am a guitar player first and love Martins in particular.

Recently GC in NYC slashed the price on a top of the line OM-45 Roy Rogers....a retail $15K guitar, meaning *wholesale* is $7500...to $5000. (It is a current version of a model the company made in 1930.)

**It was the very same week that a used OM-45 RR sold on ebay for $6150!**

There was a whole long thread on this on the Martin forum but the bottom line is someone got a new guitar (meaning with lifetime warrantee that doesn't transfer to subsequent owners) for 20% less than a used one.

The point is if they have a "behind the glass" drum set that you like you might do well to stop by every once in awhile, you never know.

From Jaye

That "policy" you mention is full of caveats, ain't it ? I mean, why only BIN ? Why wouldn't they honor an eFlay final price on an open auction ? Market value is market value, after all.

When it comes to used items if you gather enough final prices and they are lower than what GC is asking they may consider it. Actually they often use E-bay final prices and BIN to get an idea of how much they want to pay a customer for an item. For new gear the reason they go by BIN (and certified dealer) is because they wont go buy what Joe Schmoe is willing to pay but rather what competitors are offering the product for.

E-bay is not the only site to consider. Absolutely any site on the net that is certified to sell the product can be used to negotiate when it comes to new gear. I know this is a vintage drum forum but we all need new heads, sticks and things. Cascio Interstate Music usually beats GC prices on heads and often offer coupons at 10% off. What I do is go to both CIM and GC sites, put everything I want in my shopping cart from both sites, print them both off and take it to GC and they will match the price plus 10% the difference every time. By doing this you already know how much you are going to save.

If you can convince GC you are a pro, you can buy new stuff at 10% over cost....

That's the one I was talking about.

RE: price matching. I get that on heads and accessories and whatnot, but here's what I'm looking at: GC can match Cascio +10%, but I still have to pay 7% sales tax (thanks Colts...grrr...) and I have to drive and just deal with the hassle of GC in general. Plus, if you use Bing Cashback (Google it) you get 8% back from Cascio anyway, IIRC. Since I usually am buying enough to get free shipping, it's still a better deal anyway you slice it just to order from whoever has the lowest price period. Hell, it's worth a 10% premium to me not to have to leave the house, especially to go to GC.

Did you guys see that 60's Sonor kit for 599? That seems like a very nice price for that kit.

I know what you mean about the tax but I live pretty close to a GC so if I need something quick I will run over there. I do order from CIM alot because they have a great choice of harder to find items.
