Mickey Mouse Type Wing Bolts

Loading...

Hmmm...doesn't look like anyone out there has any Ludwig wing bolts to spare for restoring 1400 cymbal stands and flat base concert snare stands so I thought that perhaps there might be some other standard thread ones to buy. Course or thin thread would be great. Thank you!

Merry Christmas, green glass drum!

Thanks for replying!!! Up here, everything is in damned metric so I really am not sure. Anything that would work on 1400 flat base Ludwig cymbal stands or WFL flat base concert snare stands would be fantastic. Course or fine. Thank again!!!

Merry Christmas,

To make it worth your time and everyone elses.

We need to determine the size of the screw threads.

The Ludwig guys need to chime in and tell us.

Screw thread sizes in the US are calculated with 2 numbers.

1. Shaft diameter, such as 1/4", which yours might be.

The other number is threads per inch: say 20

1/4 X 20 is a common thread size.

Yours may very well be that size.....or not.

Next up would be 5/16 by ??

But you need to be sure.

Hey Ludwig dudes what are the thread sizes for his stands please?

AND going down from 1/4X20

You would get to 12/24...the size of our US tension rods.

A number 12 shaft with 24 threads per inch.

Ahh.....I was told there would be NO MATH.......

Thanks very much g.g.d. and Nevin! I've done my best with these old eyes to get some measurements in good ol' U.S. inches! The larger wing bolts on both the cymbal and WFL snare stands seem to be about 9/16 inches long. I counted 10 threads. They are about 1/4 inch in diameter. The smaller bolt on the WFL snare stand seems to be of a finer thread. It is 1/2 inch long, 10 threads and about 3/8 inches in diameter. It is used to anchor the moveable arm of the basket. I hope this helps but, like I mentioned, these eyes are not the best. Thank you VERY much for the info and possible leads, guys. I really appreciate it!

The Ludwig "Mickey Mouse" screws are, as Surface stated, 1/4" x 20 (Coarse or "Normal" thread) and 1/4" x 28 (Fine Thread).

The fine threading was used on the hi hat clutch (the one that tightens directly to the pull rod), Speed King Beater Clamp and at the top of the middle section of a 1400 cymbal stand (the one that tightens directly against the top, "solid rod" piece).

The coarse or "normal" threads were used on the bottoms of the tripod bases (controlling/locking in leg spread), cymbal tilter angle adjustment on the 1400's, the top of the base section (where the next section fits into it) on 1400's and snare stands.

Someone please chime in if I am wrong but I believe the above to be correct.

Thanks, V! I'd like to purchase some but, nobody up here sells them. Everything is metric! I've gone online but, nothing out there except more metric stuff from China. Hopefully, some will eventually become available. Thanks again, V.

Hi Brian!

I have a 1994 HSS Slingerland kit with these "Mickey Mouse Ears" wing bolts. Just took one off the floor tom leg bracket and tried it in a 1967 bracket. It won't thread in! Also, the 1967 T-screw will not thread into the 1994 bracket. I may have to take the Mickey Mouse bolt to my local Home Depot and see what the thread and bolt size is. Stay tuned!
