1976 Ludwig Psych Red Kit

Loading...

Ludwig "Super Classic" style drum kit in original "Psychedelic Red" wrap, sizes 22x14, 13x9, and 16x16, dated to 1976 per the badges. Drums are factory matched. Virtually no fade on the wrap, which is as vibrant with greens and blues. Some minor scuffing on the bass drum and a scratch across the badge on the 16. Clear interiors all around with good edges. Some slight lift on the 16x16 at the edges and some "eyebrows" above some of the lugs. The rack tom top hoop is slightly out of round - all drums are in round with heads spinning freely. Hoop also has some imperfect eyelets. Original heads front and back on the bass drum, as well as original batter heads on the toms. Also some minor lift at the edges of the rack seams. Email chris@hawthornedrumshop.com if interested. $2375 shipped, CONUS.

Am I the only one who despised that wrap when it was new, but now finds it pretty dang cool?

It's the second ugliest wrap to ever leave the Ludwig factory, the first being the hideous mod orange. It reminds me of finger painting we did when we were in kindergarten.DOH

generally speaking, the psychedelic era was 1967 to the late 1960s, no? In 1976 (a) was Ludwig still making drums with Psych wrap?; and (b) The Psychedelic Period was long over ...

'76 was Disco, and those red/white/blue Slingies and Luddies...

You're probably right. I've been using the serial chart that puts this in 1976, however you're not the first person to bring up the year with this one...

I have a Ludwig kit that by the serial numbers puts it at '76 too but they're 3-ply shells with all of the very early 70s hardware; diamond plate and thin arced bass drum spurs (5/16"). I think in 1970 the numbers were un-sequenced for a while.
