Has anybody even come across one of these? I wouldn't want to play one, but what a great collectable!

Vintage cocktail kits come up on ebay periodically. They usually go for big $$ though since they are rather rare.

I picked up this old Vespe cocktail drum at a pawn shop because it had Roger leg hardware stuck on it that I really wanted for my Tower floor tom.

My understanding from the forum is that Vespe (out of New Jersey) was not "top o'the line" and that the drum is of little value.

I was going to dump it on to ebay and try to make a little back on it but I'm thinking I'll just leave it in the project que since it isn't really worth much ... I to think it would be cool to have a cocktail drum sitting around with a nice set of vintage brushes hanging on it.

I always wanted a cocktail set and ended up getting one made by Phattie Drums (custom drum maker in North Carolina), with Pearl lugs and mounting hardware. It's a blast to play! It has a snare, tom, floor tom/bass, mounted cymbal plus a mounted percussion rod (cowbell, tambourine, etc.) The snare is smaller than we're used to and is naturally a higher pitch and very responsive, as is the tom. I've padded the floor tom batter head somewhat to dampen it. I've tuned the bottom head loose and padded that slightly. I miss the sound of a hi-hat, but it is a very fun set to play. I don't know if Phattie makes these anymore. I think they have associated with Stauffer Percussion.
