would appreciate help identefying an old kit

Loading...

First of all, let me introduce myself. Ed is my name.

I am a new member with zero forum skills and hoping to find some answers about a recent obtained kit that I have trouble identifying.

Let me dscribe it. (some pictures attached)

Base drum is about 18" and has long ludwig style lugs and has rods that end in an old style wing nut. Wooden hoop. Covered in cheap white plastic with a blue paint coat underneath and finaly a beautifull golden sparcle wrap that I assume is the origional. Also a floor tom that has lugs in the same style but are single ended. Hoop is a steel or chrome over brass ribbon like structure and the rods have hooks at the end that grasp over the hoop. Also plastic and paint covering golden sparcle wrap. Same for a single tom. (same lugs, rods and hoop) Snare has 8 lugs, same hoops and sparcle finisch. This one has no paint under the plastic white wrap so this was easy to 'unveil'. In the procces is dissasabled the lugs to check them out. They seem casted and the material is fairly thick and heavy. no markings inside that help me to ID this. Inside of the snare shell (whatlooks like good quality) is a silvery colored thin coating. All lugs have a kind of treathed insert like if a nut is added to fitt a different size rod.

It had some tom supports on it that might be from a other kit and have 'japan' markings. Came with 4 pieces oldschool stands. (snare, hihat and two symbal stands

Anyone an idea of what kind of brand this might be?

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Ed

I am just guessing here but looks like it could be a early Leedy & Ludwig.

I am pretty positive someone on here will know right away.

Cool kit maybe Champagne or Silver sparkle wrap.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Wayne. If it is realy a leedy & Ludwig I guess its worth restoring it. The 'japan' tom mount made me doubt if it is perhaps some early eastern copy. If any of you Gents (or ladies) has got more info then I would realy appreciate it. Happy to learn more about these drums. Thx.

Leedy & Ludwig drums were only made for about 4 or 5 years in the early 50's. Their badge was more oval shaped. To me the outline of the badge looks more like a Leedy badge. I am not certain however.

It's not a Leedy or a Leedy Ludwig kit. It has slingerland rim clips on it on the one tom pictures.

Mike.. No. it just has slingerland belly rim clips on it. which are the fat rims clips as opposed to the slim one's. this isn't any vintage amercian kit that I've seen.

Hi EdCoster... and Welcome to the forum! Looks like you're already getting some insight on what you have. There's also the possibility that the drums are a combination of parts. Hopefully, someone will have the answer!

Hi Mike and Mark.

Learning as we go along. Thanks for your input. If additional pictures are required for ID, I can arrange that. Just let me know what part (s) are of interest. Thanks again.

Looks like older Beverly drums maybe? They had lugs that look very much like these. Perhaps someone better versed in those can chime in. Google some Beverly drums images in the meantime and you'll see.

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.
