Premier Club Made in England

Loading...

Picked up a set 2 toms bass and floor tom in good shape with what looks like original heads which have been used. Picked up a missing bass drum leg and the bass mounted double tom post so now it is complete except for a matching snare. Just curious what anyone knows about these drums and what the value of them might be? Not interested in selling them as they look quite unique and sound great. Any info would be appreciated.

Hi Shrubby, lovely finish on those drums, I do like Premier and being British of course have seen my share of it. As far as I recall, Premier Club drums were previously the Super Olympic range (or was it the other way around - escapes me now); low down in the product spectrum but certainly not low in terms of quality of manufacture/materials used. The chrome plating is second to none. The shells probably have birch reinforcing rings top and bottom, and are otherwise thin (3 ply?). Guess they'd date from around the early 80s, standard sizes/depths. I've never seen a snare in that finish, most likely it would have been a chrome 1035 model included with the set. Bet they sound good? But if the heads are original it'll probably sound even better once you change them.

I like the fact that it's double headed too. There were a lot of "concert tom" versions of this range.

I owned a Club kit a few years ago - same sizes as yours but my finish was Polychromatic Gold.

Lovely kit, Enjoy it! Get some period Zyn cymbals to go with it - won't break the bank!

Correct Doug, the Club replaced the Olympic range in 1980. The re-rings are Beech and shells are 3 ply Birch. Factory snare would have been a 1005 steel but could be optioned up to others including a 1035 or 1036 etc

Cool set, but unfortunately vintage Premier's don't carry a big resale value, compared to MIA kits. I recently picked up a 74' Premier African Mahogany B303 kit, including 13x9, 14x8 (rare), 16x15, 16x18 (rare), 22x14, 14x5 near perfect COA 2000 snare, with a ton of vintage hardware (including a Lokfast stand), even a rare and cool vintage Premier stool...all for $500.00 CDN...and it sat on CL for quite a while to. There was also another Premier Elite kit that recently went for $350.00 CDN, and that sat forever to on CL. MIE drums are hugely undervalued, imo. I own several of them...not complaining as a buyer though. I certainly wouldn't look to them to flip for money though, not the best pick for that, unless you get them for VERY cheap.

Enjoy them.

Very Cool Indeed! Really like that wrap!

It's too bad the bass drum bracket and tom/leg/spur brackets are black and clash with the rest of the kit, and also seem to "cheapen" the appearance of the kit. The rest of it looks very classy. I wonder if you could get some chrome Premier brackets to use instead with the same hole spacing? That would make those look really extravagant! I also like the silver sparkle hoop inlays. An interesting, yet effective choice!

From a distance, the rack toms almost look like wood hoop toms. Very cool find. You can't go wrong with Premier!

What is the wood? Is it birch or AM? If you ever consider selling it, send me a PM.

Cheers.

Will be Birch, Premier was well and truly done with AM by 1980.
