Here's a better picture of the Trixon. It's missing one muffler on the 13, 20 and both on the floor.

Thanks diamond, judging by your arsenal, you must be a Trixon guru. Is it fair to say that Trixon Luxus kits sound a lot like the Sonor teardrops from the same era? The reason I ask is because I've owned and played a few teardrop kits and loved the sound, but I don't have too much experience with Trixon.

Thanks Johnny....upto 28 kits now....Yes mate, for sure they sound very similar...but i would say the Trixon snare drum has a much better crack to it than the Sonor from the same year...but I would probably be a bit biases

I've owned both a Trixon Luxus from '67-ish and Sonor Teardrops from that same era. Both beech shells with no re-rings (6 ply) but they still sound a bit different to me despite German origin and the same specs. The Sonor has much more tuning range on the toms in my experience. The Trixon sounded good low, but the 13" would get all types of overtones when tuned high and the 16" would get a "boing" sound. Like it went from flabby/dead to a high pitched boing with no in-between. It didn't react well to the internal tone controls either, but vintage drums vary from set to set. My Sonor toms sounded better at all ranges. That said, the Trixon BD I prefer over the Sonor. It sounds closer to a Gretsch BD than anything. Pratt muffler and similar shells as well.

I actually need feedback on the D-422/D-471 snares. Thinking of getting one to match my set but I've only played metal snares from '60s Sonor. The Trixon wood snare was a one trick pony for me. Clyde Stubblefield refused to use the chrome snare during his endorsement with Trixon/Vox. They're not the most responsive snares.
