Rare Olympic Kit?

Loading...

Hello everyone!

I recently got this Olympic Kit from 1953 in almost original catalogue configuration. (see pictures)

It even has the original sticks with it and most of the original skins. Only the brushes are missing and it has damaged BD Hoops.

Is this a rare kit or just a "nice to have" collectors-value one?

Thank you!

That's a very nice original find, but IMO, it's an oddity. I don't know about its collectible value. I don't mean to rain on your parade at all, please understand. I could never gig that set, given the music I play, but if you played acoustic gigs, it could work well. Just add a hi-hat and some decent cymbals and there you go. Good luck with them.

What a great find. Nice to see it all together like that, just like the catalog shot. Enjoy those!

Sadly, most vintage MIE's stuff is hugely undervalued. I had a early 60's John Grey kit in amazing shape, I got more then I paid for them...but not much, and it was a pain to move. I never buy any MIE kits with the intent for profit, just purely because I love them.

I say keep them and enjoy.

Hey Simon,

I have the same one kit, but not all original, for regret... Bass drum was drilled in some areas - somebody has embed bass drum legs from another Olympic drum, and one hole was drilled from the top - for the tom (bongoes) holder. The snare drum is missing, but I could get one Olympic Discus snare drum, 14x3,5" from this era, with the same wrap (original). Also, I have two of modern drumheads (Remo pinstripe) for this pre-international bass drum (19,5"), and I play it, sounds great. Whole drum kit is in extremely good condition, hoops are quite good, without any damages. Bongoes are original with Everplay heads, no additional works :) For regret, no badges on this kit... The wrap of bass and bongoes is in very good condition (the wrap is in same finish as that yours). The snare drum I mentioned is owned by one of my friend drumer, I'll ask him whether it is still in his possession... If you know somebody was interested for something like that, please contact me. I'll send all photos I had...
