1973/80 Pearl B4514 "Stewart Copeland"

Loading...

Please do read the text on this drum as it is interesting!

I have FOR SALE a 1973/80 Pearl B4514 "Stewart Copeland" snare drum. Stewart Copeland in quotations as this is THE model snare drum he played for just about ALL the Police recordings and tours back in 1979 through 1984. Stewart still has his drum actually, and he refers to it as "THE Snare" as he is asked about it constantly. He was always a stalwart TAMA endorser, and still is actually .. but .. THIS was the model snare drum he used back with The Police. A little about the drum:

Pearl B4514 ... 5X14 COB shell with 10 lugs ... Billy Gladstone style throw w/adjustable butt ... tone control. This drum is incredibly versatile in that it can function beautifully in ALL STYLES of music contingent on one's tension/tuning preferences. Everything from jazz, to The Police, to even Funk and R&B, this drum delivers. A HEAVY COB shell is part of that equation! I have TWO of these!, so I am cutting this one loose. Condition is NEAR MINT as the pics will show.

Asking: $175.00 plus shipping.

I recorded a soundfile/video which I can send you if interested. It's this particular snare drum with my 1967/68 Fibes Buddy Rich's. Quality is very good, and the sound is accurate. It's a beautiful drum!

PM me or get in touch here if interested. THANKS for looking!

... and ...

I had the pleasure of seeing The Police LIVE three times for their "Ghost in the Machine" and "Synchronicity" tours back in 1981/1983. I was a HUGE Stewart Copeland fan .. weren't we all back then?! .. and patterned a lot of my playing after him. I even had TAMA Octobans with my set at the time, but I digress ... anyway ...

Here's a GREAT LIVE video from their "Synchronicity" tour in 1983, and right at the 3:22 mark you can see this snare drum as Stewart is playing. Course a lsiten to the whole tune is in order as it's just on FIRE. This snare drum tensioned up in this area sounds like a carbine being fired ... and if Stewart's use of flams doesn't get you, nothing will! :) ENJOY!!!

Copeland has been quoted as saying they found another example of his Pearl snare to use as a backup and it didn't equal the original so was never used.

Don't forget to duct tape a cushion to it for the true "STEWART" sound!

Never play it the same way once.

... and that is a CLASSIC picture what with Stewart's "ode" to Sting written in indelible marker on his toms! :) That said ... the duct tape/padding around the snare drum was because he played just about every show/concert in shorts! After a while, your thighs start to get ripped up from the lugs and any other metal pieces that get in the way ... not to mention the sweat too! There was no hard and fast "rule" for the padding though, as many concerts were played without it, as many were with it! :)
