1968 Pearl Super-Deluxe?? (w/ pics)

Loading...

Hi folks,

I'm 99% sure this is a 1968 Pearl Super-Deluxe, but I'm not an expert. Here is what concerns me:

- 20" Bass Drum

- 10 Lug Snare

- 13" Tom and 16" Floor Tom

- Bent-Style Bass Drum Spurs

Here is a link to a VIDEO walkthrough: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6MK0-589dM"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6MK0-589dM[/ame]

That said, it compares almost exactly to the photo in the 1968 Pearl Catalog. They are thick multi-ply shells with no re-rings.

Can anyone more knowledgeable than myself confirm what these are?

...they sure sound great! Definitely going to be my go-to kit for gigs and recording!

Thank you,

Chris

If you need to put a name on the "Super Deluxe" works. So many sets out there that don't match a catalog description..... I just take the catalogs as a basic road map anymore. Details may vary. The 69 catalog shows the 20" bass as an option. Don't know about the spurs. Got a better pic?

Wanted: Pearl President floor tom in Golden Grain wrap and rack tom in Tiger Eye (root beer) wrap.

Thr spurs have a been in them. It's not a straight rod type of apur --- the extend out and then down.

The spurs look like ludwig spurs (gullwings). I don't know if Pearl used a similar design. Hard to tell whether the spur bracket is Pearl or Ludwig for my poor eyes.

Similar to Ludwig ? yes.. Ludwig ? No.. Pearl did have gullwing spurs

on some of their later 60's kits..

It is my general understanding that both Star and Pearl made the transition to thick shells/no rerings some time in the 1967-68 window. So, this makes sense for the shell type variable.

The stick-saver style of rims might shed some light on this.

I think one thing is certain - that is a great score of a kit.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Hello 68Pearls the one and only non-original mod to my kit is the cymbal arm bracket

It is a vintage Gretsch

when I first got the kit it bothered me and I had planned to change it

but ya know it is actually the nicest piece of hardware on the kit

I know all that is zero help to you ..maybe one of the more seasoned Pearl fans can help
