I like this. I would have to do another four or five layers on that before putting about five layers of clear. It would give it even more depth. You are doing a great job on those. VERY cool work.Hey, would a really light bit of color added to the clear put you off? That would give it even more depth. Mind you, not much color...just a tiny bit. That could be cool. What do you think?glitter glitter glitter color glitter glitter glitter color clear clear clear

What color are you thinking would work? This is an oil based poly, Zinnser from Lowes. And how are you thinking to add it?

Should be able to color it. Check with Lowes (or wherever) and verify. Cool stuff when you do it.

I can mix my own. What color do you think would do it? I am using a satin right now, but the final top coats will be gloss. So as it is looking like a champaign right now, and I am using an oil based poly which will amber over time, what thinks thou as to color?

A very light bronze. That should mix into the colors quite well. Make sure it's very very light. You don't want to color it as much as hint about it.

OK, This is just far too cool for shoes. MCJNIC, that 'color the final coats' idea is brilliant. Jonnistix, wow, great work bud... The shells I have are mix n match. Picked up here and there. I do think I have an old 'Sunlight' starter kit that might be cool to unwrap and stain. Just had a thought. Instead of stain, a gloss black (or dark) base with glitter layered in like stix did. Hmmm. I've got to finish the Ludwig blue sparkle first, but I just got an idea. If I do it I'll post pix and hope it comes out as nice as yours.

Good on ya! Cool1

Thanks for the kind words! If you had seen the condition of the floor tom and bass, you'd really be proud. I almost trashed the FT. The top edge/rering had been loose from the shell for so long it had disintegrated part of the top of the shell. I was able to realign the re-ring and epoxy it all back together. Then I used multiple coats of wood putty to rebuild that portion of the shell, and eventually got it back in order. This is the TOP, batter edge, same was true for a large part of the reso side of the bass. All in all, both are now structurally sound and will hold up well. When I am done and have it all back together, I will post it up in a new thread. This one is getting long.

Well, I am going to do a blue sparkle 16x16 to go with my son's Majestics next. You wanna wait a minute and see how it comes out?

And the cleaned , polished and mineral oiled parts and pieces.
