Drums with strange lugs and good looking snare

Loading...

A few weeks ago I saw this kit for sale localy.

The lugs are interesting, I think I saw CBs and Maxtones with this configuration. The snare looks sturdy and professional, with die cast hoops and 10 lugs. No idea about the cymbals.

It sold quickly by the way.

Yep, an 80's "working man's" drum set. Looks like the patina of Zildjian A's.

Those lugs are the sought after wristwatch lugs (well by those who dig CB700s of which I am one). I just picked a kit up for 50 plus shipping. No time to work on cleaning it up yet, but one of the lugs in the bass drum has a stripped interior screw into the lug. Unsure if they are weak or if this is some anomaly.

Yes, those "wristwatch" lugs are cool! Here's some pictures of my matching snare drum! It's the CB-700 "Parallel-Lay"

The diamond lug on a square footprint and ridge are just like the CB-700 I found in the trash and used for a while. It sounds good with Emperors on top and single on the bottom.

Mark - that snare looks excellent. I've never seen one. How does the snare strainer work? Looks very "high end" for a CB drum.

Hi Doug!

It really is a nice CB-700! The strainer system works pretty much like all the other companies that offer the SS style strainer: there is a rod that passes through the shell, connecting to each strainer block to allow for synchronous up/down movement. The CB system also has a rod along the bottom outside to keep each mechanism parallel. You can adjust each end up/down as well as adjust snare wire tension from each side. Works great! Raises and lowers the wires pretty much perfectly flat...and under tension, which is something that the Ludwig SS does not do! Sorry Ludwig guys!
