For Sale: Ludwig Early BO Badge Metal Piccolo Snare

These model 405 3x13 metal Piccolo snares are first shown in the '71 Ludwig catalog. These are not super rare but are much more uncommon than your average Ludwig snare. These shells are ludalloy (mostly aluminum) just like the Supras and the Acros. Shell has the Anti Galvanic ink stamp inside but no date stamp. Blue Olive pointy badge serial number is 804943. This drum has side by side double drilled holes for the strainer. I have seen two or three others with the same. Appears to be a factory oops with the location. This drum came to me without the original strainer. I just recently purchased a new Ludwig replacement strainer that fits the existing hole pattern. Works great! With the new strainer installed, you cannot see the side by side duplication.

Drum is in overall nice condition. Has a few common pit marks and small scratches here and there. Is good and clean but could probably use a nice polish if you wished to do so. I'd say nice enough for your collection but not too nice to take to play and enjoy. Has the script logo snare butt which would be correct for this drum as seen on some late 60's/early 70's models. Has 20 strand Pearl snare wires installed. The heads are older Remo pre pies, which I prefer. Clear black dot up top and Ambassador snare side. I have Ludwig plastic tension rod washers on top of the conventional washers to keep a few of the tension rods from peaking out of the lugs. I think with new heads, this may not be needed. Drum sounds fantastic and is ready to put to use! As usual, I've probably over explained it a bit. Just like to be clear on the condition.

Please pm me here or email to mikelayton@bellsouth.net if you have any questions. Thank you!

Very Nice Mike,

I would say,.... "These are Rare."

With "Rare" Downbeat Lugs.

It is a fine piece for a collection.

And a tight Supra like pop.

Nice price. Nice deal.
