Please let me know what you find. I need some old Sonor parts covered in something cheap, as they are in horrible shape now and even a light nickel would looks 100X better.
Cheap chrome plating is very bad. Go to a car show or restorers of cars/motorcycles ask who they use local.

Per chrome piece has gone from $10 bucks to $20 bucks in the SF bay area.
The folks I used did a good job.
CA pollution laws are nothing short of anal retentive when it comes to any type of blue collar industry these days.
I needed to have a drum refinished in polyurethane and the paint guy told me to legally finish my drum he needed a $175K paint booth.
You would think that with all the laws ,fees and taxes out here ,those folks making these laws would quit consuming lead paint chips as a snack food.
CA. has gone insane. Why I moved to WA. Hope all works out !!

Over here in the UK which might be out of your way is a place called www.rschrome.co.uk they do cars bikes and are very highly respected with chrome work same as premier rolls royce chroming. Probably not the cheapest but great results. I had a Rogers Big R that need all the post and tom arms doing gosh they came out like factory showroom condition. Good luck im sure in the US there are many. Dont go for cheap as results are basically crap. Go and check out their long list of work done from big to small. Plus they are a small family run business just outside of Manchester UK with yrs of experience.
Yes, what's up with the price of chroming now? I had 16 nickel-over-brass Ludwig bass claws I wanted chromed, and a local place quoted me $15 each. Then they told me for just $5 more each, they could plate them in 10k gold! I went for the gold and boy do they look great.
So are these high rechroming prices being driven by materials and environmental laws, or is it labor costs?

I imagine it's the environmental laws have priced a lot of platers out of the business. Now with fewer places and more regulations everywhere, the prices are going up.
I have some stuff that I was considering having done (in NY state) and the price was ridiculous. How does spray paint look instead? hehehe

Probably both.
McDonald's starting wages are up to $15/hr out here.
One of the local drum builders (who has gone out of biz) said he used to ship his stuff out of state.
