My mother told me..I saw a whole drum set in a construction dumpster-do you want it?So,what is the answer?ARE YOU KIDDING?

After many hours of disassembly, cleaning, lubing etc.,here she is.

8X12(not shown),9X13,14X16,14X22 in White"driftwood"covering. All hardware is Pearl style, but no Pearl stampings.Sorry, guys, the auto-walk spurs had to go.

I have to honestly say this set has totally returned me to loving playing drums. And I don't baby them, either. All interiors are "zolocoated"-trunk paint with a pinkish tint to it.I have not seen this particular woodgrain white finish before-any thoughts on age or origin?Triangular muffler plates, sort of early Tama-Star-ish.

This is a nice kit. It looks to be late 60s early 70s by the tom mount. Why Pearl ever went away from those swivo-style mounts....Anyway, it is probably an actual Pearl, as I, personally, have not seen that style of mount on any of the stencils. Ralf may know a bit more, or Jaye. Jaye seems to have more experience with the Pearl stuff, while Ralf is more in tune with Star/Tama. I am getting a good grip on both, as I have no way of knowing what will pop up here in the oil patch bread basket. Seems to me that I am seeing a "cross pollination" of these hardware parts. As for a lot of the lugs, rail/consolette and spurs/mounts, I am beginning to wonder if there was a foundry that supplied both makers. I have a Majestic kit that I am certain is Star because after extensive research, and a long search of both catalogs, the top of the line Star kits from the late 60s are the only ones that have the identical mix of the above mentioned. Also, I have a little red snare that has the Slingerland style lugs that have "Pearl" cast into them. My Majestics have the same lugs, but they are earlier. The snare is most probably from the 70s as it has cut edges. I am certain that both companies made the switch to cut edges sometime after the Ludwig change in 68 as the Majestic is from 65-68. You have a nice set, what color is the wrap? Also, what is the shell construction? I am working on a set that is a Pearl stencil that was re-wrapped for some reason with black crap. The bass is almost certainly not from the same time because it has 3 ply re-ring construction and had gold sparkle on it, and the toms and snare are missing the grommets and they are siingle ply w/rings, all mahogany. An interesting note on the bass: it is laid up with opposing run on the grains, which I find to be more work than I have these types of kits use. I am beginning to wonder if the bass is even a match. The lugs have been re-drilled in order to accept the slightly different Pearl stuff, and the interior is painted black with grey speckling, while the toms seem to have been painted to almost match, as the speckling is a slightly different color. The shell contruction-probably 6 ply mahogany-not as thick a shell as my Royce/Pearl hybrids-no rerings.Painted with pinkish-grey zolocote on all interiors.Steel 5X14 8 lug snare.Muffler knob is different than the Royces-it has an indented knob with fluting, like a quarters edge.Royces are mid-70's Pearl muffler knob. This set had it's original heads on it-clear ambassador type steel rimmed heads with stuck on(from the factory)SILVER dots. The silver comes off on your sticks and transfers to your cymbals-

The Royce/Pearl Export set will be posted at a later date.

The entire collection of sets-

1973 Rogers 5 piece swivo-brought back from certain destruction.Stored in a wet basement-rust-mold -corrosion-all broken collets.

Mid 70's Royce/Pearl Export 5 piece.Bougt 3 years ago-very woody tone w/coated pinstripes all around and a Pearl Export 16X22 bass.

My friends on the first posting

A put together 12,14,20 set for church.

BTW, where did you get the L-arm? I can't seem to find that one. I found all sorts of others, but not that one.

I actually have 3 L-arms.1 is on the set and is height adjustable,1(non-adjustable)had to be adapted to a modern Pearl bass mounted cymbal holder by welding a 7/16"sleeve over the 3/8" L-arm,and the third-floating around SOMEWHERE.You cannot even IMAGINE the collection of non-matching ,bizzare drum stuff laying around here-OR CAN YOU.......

Including a 14X22 Ideal triple rering bass shell with lugs, tom mount and partial cymbal mount-red sparkle

And a 9X13 9-ply cloned Sonor Japaneese blue tom

Pictures upon request-

Do you have any of the Pearl type lugs? I need like 5 of them, some of my floor tom lugs are broken. The former owner had drilled thru the broken lugs and WIRED them to the shell. Also could you post a shot of the inside of the Ideal? I could use 16" 8 lug hoop and a 22" wood hoop if you got them. Some parts of this kit, what am I saying, the whole kit was roughHurting. I should have kept the bass and thrown everything else, but you know how the restorers mind works...I can fix that.....Yes Sir

[COLOR="DarkRed"]Can you snap a pic of the zola-painted interior of one of 'em ?

It's definitely Pearl-made, whether a stencil or not, nobody'll ever know. My Whitehalls have those hex mount assemblies on 'em, so some stencils did have those.

Also, a closeup of the exterior finish....it just looks like almond gloss from your first pic.

Heck, you can't beat a dumpster find !!!!flower

Jonni...you can get those sorta replacement PEARL-style lugs uber-cheap from drummaker.com. They don't match-up perfectly with some of the older originals, but the hole spacing is the same and you really have to examine 'em side-by-side to note the difference.

Well, matching is not an issue anymore. As I am sitting here polishing the 30 years of crud off them, I am finding at least 3 different styles. One has the "old style" swivo-nuts with springs, the others have a plastic "clip" that holds the nut in place. The majority throughout the set are these really cheapos with the "clip" thingy holding it all together.

I will take a picture of the Ideal bass and the Sonor-san tom.It is possible, not definite the Sonor-san drums were marketed in the mid-80's under the Power-sonic name. Also will attempt a close-up shot of the speckle interior and white driftwood exterior.Alas-I had to buy $100 Keller wood hoops for the Royce/Pearl set-I have none.Only metal.
