Jeff! We've all had our projects that we question whether it is/was worth it. However, it's the final result that matters! And, I've learned my lesson to NEVER add up what it costs! So, yeah, "what the hay"! LOL-Mark

True dat.....soooo frustrating...

Well at least this one is mainly labor. I purchased the Gibraltar strainer that Mark suggested for 22.00, I will need 15" wires, another 20 or so and the drum cost me 75.00. So when complete I will only have about 112.00 in this drum. Oh, you said never add up the expenses, oops, lol! This drum should be worth that, hope it sounds good.

Thank you!

Just a tip - in case you may want to put a Slingerland 3-point on your snare in the future - the Gibraltar 3-point mounting holes are NOT the same as a Slingerland. I learned that the hard way.

However, if the repro is OK to you, it functions very well and looks nice.

Thanks Lynn, I was wondering about that. Since this is just a budget drum I went with the repop strainer. This drum is getting a section of the poplar ply replaced as well as the entire outer ply, so it will never be a collectors drum. One of those purchases made while drinking beer one night and not really thinking it out real good. But it will be a challenge to repair the plys on it. Something to do when there is nothing on TV,lol.

And, even though it's a "budget" drum and not a "collector's" drum, we all know it's going to look GREAT after you weave your magic on it!! Can hardly wait to see the finished drum!

Yeah, I was under the impression that the hole spacing was the same, so I just popped one on a late-60s Hollywood Ace that had a busted Zoomatic and extra holes...and some minor fire damage. When I got hold of a Slingerland 3-point, it wouldn't fit. So, although this is a player drum, I'm putting a Rapid on it like it should have had and - after some plugged holes, filler, a fresh coat of "chocolate milk" inside, and green glass wrap - it's gonna look like it should have in the late-60s...just with a few internal "war wounds." The drum sounds amazing as it is.

I'm sure yours will sound fantastic as well. I'm a sucker for deep snare drums (as you know from helping me with the 7x14 cigar band drum...which I've fallen deeply in love with). And I agree with Mark, knowing your talents, your drum is gonna look stunning when you're done.

Good luck and share pics of the process!

Have you considered a TDR strainer? It is not period authentic, but, in my opinion, it is the best strainer Slingerland ever made. Also, I have several.

Gibralter now makes a replica of the 3-point strainer. Most all outlets, including musiciansfriend.com, etc., carry it.
